I attended puppy training classes through BDAR with my heeler puppy in January 2025, and had a fantastic experience!! I had been working on teaching him some commands myself, but was struggling with where to start. The BDAR instructors gave us easy to implement, basic commands that we could work on between classes, along with handout reminders. They answered ALL the questions about puppies - potty training, barking, reactivity. But my favorite takeaways: they taught us enrichment activities (snuffle mats, food puzzles, how to keep your dog busy during the winter months) and the puppy socialization. The latter was SO helpful for my heeler - he was able to meet other dogs in a calm, controlled environment. His confidence in meeting other dogs and situations increased tenfold during the 4 weeks of class, and I went from having a barky, scared puppy on walks, to one who can take in his environment confidently. I highly recommend the puppy training classes at BDAR, and might have to look into their older dog training as a refresher next year!

The employees at Black Dog have been so helpful and caring, helping me and my new adopted dog adjust to our new lives together. Parsley came with manners and tricks she learned from being a part of the PACK program, which is an excellent program that pairs these special dogs with inmates who teach them all the skills they'll need to adjust to their new families. I'm so glad Black Dog gave my new best friend a second chance. Parsley came from a Texas kill shelter, and somehow made her way to the safety of Black Dog. I've had a few moments of anxiety raising Parsley and have called for help and guidance to ensure I'm doing the right things for her. They've been kind, helpful and non-judgmental and I've truly appreciated their insight. I can't say enough great things about this special place. Cheyenne is lucky to have Black Dog in our community.

Best animal rescue out there! Got my little guy from here three years ago and my life has been so much better. Not only are the staff amazingly, kind, and beyond caring, BDAR has unique programs like the PASS program which is a positive alternative to shelter surrender. It’s how I adopted my doggo after his owners gave him up. He got to stay with them until he found a new home aka the very lucky and grateful me! BDAR does amazing work and I’m forever grateful and appreciative for them

Black dog rescue came to our rescue when we needed them! Didn’t know about the rescue until our neighbor referred us. Our female dog got pregnant when Chico came from couple blocks around the corner and jumped our fenced in yard! She ended up having 10 puppies! We wanted them to have good homes and not just people that would have them a few months and rehome them! Black dog Rescue screens each applicant, spays and neuters and chips the animals! We absolutely needed this as we were moving back to Idaho and just couldn’t take them with us. In addition, spayed our female for us and chipped her as well as the one puppy we did keep due to our low funds. I know this certainly cost a bundle and rest assured even though we’ll be in Idaho donation funds will be sent for their generosity! ALL members were and are amazing to work with and so helpful and friendly! We’re compassionate and gave me time with each puppy as we brought them in as I got attached! I’m beyond grateful for all they have done and continue to do for the Cheyenne community! I wholeheartedly recommend if you want a forever friend that you first bc heck with Black Dog Reacue and support their facility!

Sincerely,

Tina Wakefield...

Called to adopt two cats after losing my cat of 20 years. Got accused by the executive director Emilee of not owning a property that I listed on my application as, THE OWNER. She knew personal information of mine and was very accusatory on the phone. Saying things like “your family owns it” and “I looked on the county assessors website” “it’s a venue” when I’ve never even met this woman. Nor did she attempt to ask me about any of the information she thought she knew was to be accurate, which wasn’t. The address used as a private art and photography studio which I was never allowed to explain during our call. “Is it an apartment?” she kept asking. I felt uncomfortable to continue the conversation. I kept telling her I am one of the owners and could provide documentation. Very biased adoption shelter. It’s most likely political. Very disappointed and saddened by...
