I'm born and raised here in chico, almost 38 years old, and I've been coming to this place and loving it since I was a young child. Sadly that is no longer the case.
It looks like there's been quite a bit of disapprovement in a lot of these more recent reviews. It's seemed off recently to me as well and after my experience tonight it made me wonder if ownership had changed. It appears that, yes, it has. And NOT for the better.
Tonight I was denied the honoring of my full customer loyalty card. I was told they stopped the card last month and started doing a new system through a phone number. I literally got it stamped with it's final stamp last week so if they stopped a month ago that's pretty odd they still have the stamper next to the register and be stamping my card still. I understand not handing new ones out perhaps but to not even honor full ones? Right on š I totally feel like a valued lifelong customer and feel called to continue my loyal support......not.
The new loyalty model is absolute trash also. Instead of buy 5 get 1 (small) free you now get 1 point for every dollar spent and every 60 points you get $5 off. In other words you spend twice as much money as previous to not even get a small free one š
They also used to pack the cup down with yogurt and then load the cup up far past the brim with a big tall swirl. Now it does not get packed down and it's just filled right to the cup brim. By all means it's still plenty more sugar yogurt than one needs if we're just talking about getting a lil treat....but in comparison to what it used to be it's a huge reduction in product that you're receiving.
The yogurt tastes different than I remember as well. I acknowledge that I've become more appreciative of quality products that aren't filled with artificial crap and tons of additives (which this yogurt is definitely filled with artificial and low quality junk) but it just seems like the yogurt is lesser quality now than it ever was previously.
The new owners sure seem to be doing great at implementing the pervasive model that's all to prevalent these days when it comes to food/restaurants. Lower the quality, reduce the quantity, and charge more! Taking a cherished local business that's been here for over 40 years and absolutely wrecking it. I won't be surprised if this place gets run into the ground and is gone soon.
Step up your game new owners. You say you're not new to this and have been in the business for over 6 years? Cool. Now try making it quality instead of some run of the mill generic place to forget about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm really disappointed with the Jon & Bon's experience since the recent ownership change. I usually go to the Mangrove location, but sometimes visit the Broadway location as well. Lately, not even half of the frozen yogurt machines are running, meaning there are 3-4 flavors at most, sometimes less at Broadway. Topping are routinely out of stock for extended periods of time. The website is never updated, so you can't check flavors in advance... they should just remove that feature altogether if they're not going to keep it up to date. And lastly, they switched their white styrofoam cups to cardboard paper cups - at least at Mangrove. The frozen yogurt melts much more quickly, and getting yogurt to-go is not really an option anymore since it will be soup by the time you get home. Oh, and on top of all of that, the new owners have upped the prices and gotten rid of the beloved "special" size which was petite & came with a free half-topping. This ain't it,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEnd of an era... we've enjoyed Jon & Bon's for over 30 years and tonight was our last visit. Yogurt quality/taste is poor, toppings are $1.15 per tablespoon, new containers don't keep yogurt cold enough so it becomes soup, poor girl helping us said she wasn't allowed to give our 4yr old her yogurt until we paid for everything (we had four adults in our party as well) and had obviously been yelled at by customers over that as well as must have gotten in trouble for doing so by the boss. Serving container was smaller and yogurt swirl was left hollow in the middle instead of packed like it used to be. Completely understand rising costs, but sacrificing quality, quantity, increasing prices, and implementing odd rules doesn't have us wanting to come back. Plenty of other local, friendly businesses with delightful treats.
Photos are of a small yogurt ($6.99) and toppings that are two scoops (tablespoons)...
