Our experience at this diner location was a positive one. The biggest positive surprise was the fact that they serve Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, which made it the first of several breakfast and restaurant places in Chico. My companion been asking for it for quite some time, and Cozy Diner had gone the extra mile and purchased the machine in plain sight. Not many patrons at 2 PM, but we were treated cordially and service was efficient at the able hands of our server, Imelda? Food requested: Veggie Crepes, $13.39? Three crepes with in store made potatoes. One of the ingredients was Spinach, which was the lesser amount, with the most broccoli and tomatoes, etc. Turns out, after conversing with Charles, one of the managers, that is permissible to request more of the spinach, per say, and problem solved! Good looking plate with fresh avocado 🥑 4 Stars. Ham, 3 over medium eggs, and hash browns, almost $14? Including a very nice and thick Rye Bread lightly toasted. Must right here and now say that our server was not joking when she said the ham was a big one, because it is. All items accounted for, and for ham enthusiasts it certainly delivered, at the very least on size. Sizable dish and filling. 4 Stars. Orange Juice Large, $4.95. What can one say about freshly squeezed orange juice, if only for the novelty of it, 5 Stars. This one beats the big D, in that is slightly better and priced. We also bought 2 bread puddings $2.75 each? Mondays 2 for 1 free range fried chicken with a couple of drinks. Fridays all one can eat Fried Fish (Swai?), which I am curious to find out if they make a good one. Overall nice experience, 4 Stars.
Nice Clam Chowder on Fridays compared to several other establishments, better than most. 2 Bowls with warm cornbread, $12+ plus gratuity for a job well done. 5/24/2024 Today the fish, in fish and chips had declined in serious fashion. Salad with blue cheese a tremendous insipid no no. Service nice, which only proved the valid point that quality in the restaurant industry is truly elusive. Good one day, so so next, disappointing with zero warnings. 3 Stars. 4/4/2025 Charles excels at running the place. From the moment we arrived to departure he keeps moving about with determination, and very possibly a proud Marine? as he shows all the good traits the finest do. Food, yes, has its hiccups but never enough to condemn permanently. Service as of late, at least 6 months or more, borders on exemplary, above average. Considerate, well mannered, extremely pleasant personalities or we been lucky to be served by the best. Seniors score what is probably a very enticing set of choices under the Senior Menu. Let’s just say it delivers in general. Kids also benefit from value options. Patrons in general seemed satisfied in Cozy as attendance is not dismal, meaning no action, sad. I understand they been around since the 1960’s which attest to their well deserved place in the community of this great place called Chico. Grievances: Clam Chowder (Friday’s only) where are the clams? Are they still swimming in the ocean? Let’s leave it at that as the staff is polite and accommodating I’m sure. A great manager directs a place like a fine tuned orchestra, and here in Cozy, now displaying modern black outfits as seen in very nice places, Cozy seems to make its own kind of...
Read moreToday we went to eat around 3 something pm and I ordered a Crispy Chicken salad, which was very good, and my wife ordered a patty melt with Chedder cheese. We gave instruction to have the meat cooked on the grill instead of the char broiler so that the meat wouldn't be burnt, because the char broiler pretty much always burns the hamburger. when we got the meal, my salad was correct and very good, but the Patty melt was a Reuben. No problem, traded it in and got the Patty melt. The hamburger was burnt, obviously cooked on the char broiler, and the bread was also burnt and pretty badly as well. Since we got the Patty melt with out having our instruction followed, meat cooked on the char broiler (desired to have it cooked on the grill), we felt the waitress had not made sure our Patty melt was prepared correctly by the instruction we gave. We want the management to know the qualify of the food on that part of our order was very low. Cozy diner would not want to post a picture of that meal on the web, that's for sure. We asked that the Patty melt be removed from the bill, but that was rejected because we said ok to keeping the meat for our dog. My wife was not able to eat a meal she ordered and that is very disappointing. We left the meat and ended up paying for a meal my wife didn't get to eat. Definitely not fair. The waitress informed me the cook doesn't listen to anyone. In my mind the management needs to be a little more aware of what takes place in the restaurant so things like this don't happen to such a bad degree. I guess I chalk it up poor food quality from Cozy Diner on...
Read moreFirst time coming to the Cozy Diner and I will say I’m really surprised by how well they were rated in comparison to the experience we had. On the plus side- EXCELLENT service, very quick and efficient and polite and couldn’t ask for better host and servers, even on Easter when they’re busy. Unfortunately the quality of the food just isn’t there.
Chicken fried chicken sandwich- overcooked, one end had a gray pallor to it, and the sandwich comes dry which I wasn’t expecting (no Mayo or mustard served with it- just ketchup on table) Strawberry crepes- I was so so excited for this, and then so immediately disappointed when I realized it was canned strawberry pie filling. Couldn’t eat more than one bite. Combo: eggs with ham?, hashbrowns and sausage with French toast. Eggs were generic, the hashbrowns were pretty awful. Cooked on the outside but so thick the inside wasn’t cooked at all. Sausage was normal store bought stuff. Now let me just say, I’m pretty sure the French toast was a French toast bake like how people make monkey bread, and that was super delicious and rich and full of cinnamon goodness. If I could make a recommendation it would be to make icing to go with it like a cinnamon roll. Mimosa- no complaints!
Overall, $50 later, I wouldn’t go back when there are many other great dining options in Chico, but I do very much appreciate how great...
