Tacos Super Tonaya — Restaurant in Chico

Another "Taco Tuesday", another review, and for awhile I was beginning to question the validity of Taco trucks in Chico. So, I was pleasantly surprised, and relieved, when I ordered from Tacos Super Tonaya. I perused the menu, and ordered...tacos! 4 chicken and 4 carne asada, with everything. At $1.25, these are some of the cheaper ones in town, but that's the everyday price...it can only be beat by 1 other place (but I still have many more to go). When I looked at them, I was skeptical, because if you smother your product in sauce it usually means dry, unseasoned meat. NOT here, though. The meats were incredibly juicy, cut into the right size for the shells, and seasoned perfectly, and the sauce only enhanced the flavor. Add in the fact that they were topped with the right amount of onion/cilantro, AND a jalapeño (I don't like radishes) made for a perfect Taco. This is an establishment that I will return to for other menu items. It wasn't too busy when I arrived (11:50 am), but soon after it had a line 6 people deep, and more arriving as I left. THAT speaks for the truck as well. Get there early, enjoy your food, and show love to this Truck... they've earned it with the quality...

I'd never tried this place before this last week and I wish I had before! Definitely above-average taco truck food. Nicely seasoned, decent but low spice, and the carne asada tacos were fantastic. Why? They sear the outer tortilla! This is a game-changer. That means it's less prone to breaking and it adds a wonderful crunch and awesome taste due to the maillard reaction. The onions and cilantro tasted very fresh. The only complaints are very individual for me. I would have preferred more grease in the meat and the limes were a bit small. Still, I got almost enough juice out! I'm dinging the atmosphere due to location. A check cashing place parking lot leaves a lot to be desired. Was give to walk down to Mangrove Bottle Shop though! I have 4 for the food simply because the tacos weren't very spicy even with the salsa on them and, again, the lack of grease. We hired these guys for my Wedding reception coming up on April 16th. We came today to test out the tacos and make sure they are going to be what we want at our reception and they did not disappoint!!!! Están bien ricos los tacos and the nachos de carnitas are so good! I was surprised how cheap the small order of nachos was at $4 bucks because they come loaded with meat, tomatoes, queso, and jalapenos!!! My new favorite taco truck! I can't wait for these guys to cater my event! We will definitely be booking them more than once as we have a quinceanera coming up this year too! Está bien rica la comida aquí les doy un 10!!!!
