Raley's — Local services in Chico

I'm only giving this a 2 star because I love their sandwiches and they have a wonderful store and great produce but i am highly upset about their bakery. I was so heart broken about my daughters 2nd birthday cake. I ordered a unicorn cake and it was supposed to have rainbow hair but there was so much of it that it was turning a brownish gray color with all the colors mixed. There was waaay too much of it on the cake that when I cut the cake where the layers of hair wasnt, the cake split in half because it was too heavy. The filling in the middle wasn't what I asked for at all. The message on the cake was so large that they wrote it curving off the cake!!! She put the horn in the cake and then pulled it out because it wouldn't fit in the box so the frosting on the forehead was even more messed up. I wasn't asked to see the cake before it was packaged because my cake was paid for in advance and I asked for it to be ready when I got off work around 5. I was so upset when I got home I cried and was not about to leave to go back to the store and be gone again on my daughters birthday to ask for my money back although that's what I shouldve done. Thankfully the cake was for a 2 year old and she wasn't bothered by it at all but I was so upset for paying so much for a cake that didnt turn out the way it was...

Super clean and aesthetically pleasing, this Raley's is my favorite big name grocery store in town. The deli has a great variety of choices that include classic deli foods plus many unique interesting sides and prepared entree items that are ready to be cooked at home. The bakery is also really well rounded with so many delicious looking cakes, cookies, deserts and bread. Every section is kept sparkly clean and well stocked with a nice variety of brands. Every time I go in, it looks brand new like they just opened yesterday. If I can't make it to a butcher shop, Raley's is the only place I will buy meat for my family because they carry higher end, hormone free, organic meat. I love Raley's for so many reasons and the wide selection of organic and whole food choices in every isle that other big commercial grocery stores do not. This particular Raley's is exceptionally clean and well maintained. It is however noticeably more expensive item per item compared to other big grocery stores in town, but the great experience, healthy wholesome food choices, fresh bakery, deli, and butcher, make it totally worth the extra expense...

Look I'll be honest, this place is probably one of the most expensive grocery stores in Chico. It also feels like it was organised by employees who just threw darts labeled things like "bread" and "Organic" at a store map while taking shots in between throws. I find myself zigging and zagging back and forth like I'm on a scavenger hunt and my reward is an overpriced organic banana.

So why the high score? Because it isnt Winco. I'll be honest, Wincos parking lot has made me wonder if a career change to serial killer is right for me. With Raley's not only is parking easy, but you usually dont have to bob and weave between people who did meth before mentally doing math to find the best deal on cheese and top ramen.
