HOLY JEEZ. Any lover of video games must go to this place.
First of all. I hate Google +. Sorry, Google. I had to say it. Youtube comments remake combined with lack of compatibility with my bmail address made it so.
Second, I made a Google+ profile to write this review. I wrote something that I HATE in order to say how good this place is.
Back in 2009 - 2010 I found this place as a freshman with some cool video games for sale, some dice for tabletops, and finally a few Arcade cabinets. Nice mix of stuff. Not a master an any of it by any means, but Jack of All Trades definitely. You can find yourself some classic systems or ye olde peripherals from old times past.
NOW IF YOU MUST READ ANYTHING FROM THIS REVIEW, READ THIS PART.
I graduated from Binghamton University and came back to visit in 2013. I came in with a group of friends looking for a Metal Gear Collection and a whole bunch of dice for a game called Time Wizards (Long Story). Bad news, we didn't find either. They don't sell dice anymore. Even worse news, the arcade cabinets in the back of the store were gone.
Now some good news. Great news.
Robot City Games has expanded.
Off in the back, there is a good old token machine next to a Portal of Nostalgia.
Street Fighter Alpha! Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (unfortunately frozen at the time)! House of the Dead! Smash TV! Punch Out! Racing Games! Pac Man! Cheesy 80's Light Gun shooters!
The list went goddamn on and on. They may as well change their name to Robot City Games Museum. A History in Tokens.
And the best part is, the majority of the games were ONE token, ONE play. And each token is at the American Standard Token rate of $.25 per token. The only ones that were 2 tokens, much to my slight disappointment, were all the racing games.
The arcade blew me away. The room is dark to keep the screens brightly lit. The floors are carpeted. It felt like an arcade that has been there for years. I honestly felt like I was 7 again. But this time, I had my own goddamn tokens and mom couldn't tell me it was a waste of money. It's beautiful and you should find your way to Clinton Street NOW to get yourself behind one of those beautiful cabinets.
Any Bing Uni student reading this review, hop onto a Westside Shuttle, get off at the Autozone then walk down Glenwood Ave. Hook right onto Clinton and walk down in. Pop into an Antique Shop or two. Then you turn yourself right into Robot City Games with a five dollar bill and you spend the next hour having the best fun before midterms come around.
P.S. If my review gives you ANY increase in business, please for the love of the spirit of good reviews, get a racing cabinet with manual, an actual clutch, and two player support. I'm a huge racing arcade fan and if you get yourself one of those, I'll be sure to visit each time I come around with...
Read moreWow!!! Just wow!!! Absolutely amazing place! Seriously could spend all day... From the minute I pulled up it was a great store.. when you first walk in they have pretty much every video game you could really imagine. Xbox, PlayStation and so on. There are a bunch of rows of video games which was nice but the good stuff is in the display cases on the right and in the back room. In the display cases on the right is pretty much every game system that has ever been released. Everything from Atari up to the modern games. I couldn't even believe the amount of old gaming systems that they had. It was literally amazing to see. Brought me right back to my childhood in the 70s and 80s. Prices seemed pretty reasonable but to be honest I don't really know what the average price of those old game systems are. After looking at the old game systems I then headed into the back arcade where all the really good stuff is. From the moment you step in it is absolutely amazing. They have just about every single arcade game and pinball game you could think of for the last 30 or 40 years. Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, Frogger, asteroids and every original game like that that you could imagine. Tons and tons of pinball games including the Twilight Zone, Wheel of Fortune, Star Trek and so much more. Also a variety of race car games. If you are looking for an arcade from your past that offers old style video games and pinball machines this is absolutely the place to be. All of the games are very reasonable and only cost one to two tokens/ quarters per play. They have a change machine on hand that gives tokens. Seriously feels like you are transported back to the 70's or 80's with all of the games that they have. Ended up spending about an hour as I was on a time limit but pretty much had the place to ourself for most of the time on an early Monday morning. Very very clean and organized and well kept. I really enjoy giving back to places like this and ended up buying a T-shirt with their store logo ($19.99) and will definitely return When in the area. I would also recommend it to anybody who likes old arcade games and video games. Can't say enough how absolutely mesmerizing it was to see all of my childhood games in one place. I can't imagine what the owners have put in to getting and up keeping all of it. Truly a gem worth checking out...
Read moreWent here for the first time on Friday July 1st, had a pretty good experience. Me and my sister played in the arcade , bought some snacks and I ended up buying her a game. When buying the game I saw on the case that the game had “VR mode included” didn’t know if that meant she would have to have the PS4 VR as I’m not familiar with this particular release of the game , I assume since it said “included” that it was just an extra feature but to be safe , I ask the gentleman working there as well. He said he wasn’t sure but I can return it , I bought the game on my card and we left. So when we get home my sister tried to install the game and it didn’t work because it required VR , okay no biggie the guy said I can return it. I got busy with work and my older sister coming into town so I finally get around to returning it today, July 15th. This is why this review has such low stars despite my previous good experience, the gentleman who helped me today was quite rude and informed me that the policy is only 3 days for a return. Okay so I ask if it can be exchanged for store credit so she can get a game she could actually play. He repeats the same sentence to me again and again seems annoyed to be dealing with me , says he wouldn’t be able to do it anyway because I didn’t have a receipt ( I was never offered a receipt at the time of purchase) the gentleman who had helped me the first time tried to explain as well , this guy then repeated the same sentence. I felt like it was rude and a bit patronizing to be treated this way and will not be buying games from here again. Really a shame as it is very close to my house and a place I...
