My boyfriend and I stopped here just now to get lunch during a road trip, and had an amazing experience. We were staying in the Finger Lakes for the week, and we're heading home to Philly today. We searched for vegan spots in the car on our route home, and between the reviews for Parlor City and the pictures everyone has posted, it was the easiest decision ever. This spot is so cute, their online presence and website were excellent for exploring on the ride over while my boyfriend drove, and I LOVE that their menu changes frequently. It felt like we were lucky to arrive on a day that had a menu we were so jazzed about.
The location is so cute. I love the way they have it set up, and I bet it's even more cozy and special when they don't have to socially distance tables and chairs. This is the kind of place I'd love to go with some girlfriends for Sunday brunch.
The two women we interacted with were SO super friendly. It wasn't just great service- they were outgoing and excited in a way that's memorable and impactful. Truly above and beyond. They made such good suggestions, seemed genuinely happy about everything we ordered, and gave additional information about the hot sauces and products I was interested in. They were sincerely kind and upbeat. I had my dog in a carrier on my back, and one of the women asked if she could give her a cookie. When she realized they'd run out, I mentioned that my dog loves carrots, and she actually went to the back to get her one! Stevie was very, very happy, and it made our day.
The food was amazing, of course. My boyfriend got a chicken fried mushroom sandwich, I got the reuben (my favorite pre-vegan sandwich that I haven't had since going vegan 5 years ago) and we split the brownie milkshake, and got the mac and cheese and the stuffed garlic bun to bring home for dinner tonight. Everything was incredible. The value is totally spot-on, I feel like my dollar went really far for the portion size and especially for the actual quality and homemade ingredients. You can really taste that it's made from scratch. Whoever makes this food is a skilled expert at their craft, and puts a lot of love and care into their work. Even the massive fried mound of mushrooms on my boyfriends sandwich flawlessly toed the line by being delicious vegan junk food without being overly greasy or heavy. My reuben was unbeatable. It had such flavorful meat, the cheese was melty and I could taste it even through the fresh kraut, and the bread was toasted to a perfect crunch. I'll be thinking about that sandwich for a long, long time.
I cannot speak highly enough of this spot, and I really hope to return in the future. Philly is respected as one of the best vegan cities in the country, and we truly do have an absolute mecca of vegan options, but now I wish we had Parlor City. I love that it exists in a smaller, remote setting, but it would absolutely kill in a big city and I believe it would thrive even in a more saturated market. I've only stopped here once, for one meal, and stayed for maybe an hour at the most, but this was a wholly wonderful dining experience that will stick with me as a highlight of this vacation. From the service, to the food, to the cute touches across the space, Parlor City has really nailed it when it comes to impeccable, high quality, yet...
Read moreParlor City has been on my radar for awhile - Ive heard so many great things about this place but am not local. While visiting the area, we stopped here for lunch & all I can say is… STOP READING THIS REVIEW & JUST GO!!! Wow- it was DEVINE! 🔥✨💕
Being vegan for many years, Ive been to MANY vegan places & Parlor City is now in my top 3 fave spots ever. And trust me when I say, I have been ALL over for vegan spots.
Ambiance - Seriously, this place is STUNNING. Located in what seems to be a historic building, the inside is BEAUTIFUL! Loved all the decor, the beautiful floor, the plants everywhere- such a vibe! It seriously is so beautiful. 💕
Service - Service was wonderful! Our waitress was really kind, welcoming & friendly! The food came out pretty quickly for a small place - and it was decently busy for a lunch on a Saturday.
FOOD - DEVINE! STUNNING! MIND BLOWING! Their menu has really great choices- it was hard to pick. We wanted to try the “Spicy Hen” which is a fried mushroom sandwich but they were out of stock.
What we got: “Big Maxine” which is a HUGE fully loaded double burger. Two wonderful vegan patties, fresh bun, cheese, and sauce. It was seriously one of the best vegan burgers I ever had. I really liked that it was NOT SUPER greasy like most vegan burgers- it was flavorful, fresh & just perfect. 🍔
-“Skeptic goes to Buffalo” - which was a Buffalo Mac & Cheese which was grand. The cheese was delicious and the vegan fried buffalo chicken on top just perfected the entire thing.
Loaded fries. The fries were crispy & done just perfect. They did not skimp on the cheese- which was great. It also had vegan bacon bits (dare I say the BEST vegan bacon bits Ive ever had), fresh scallions and ranch dressing. The flavors all came together so wonderfully and it was just SO good. 🍟
Cinny buns to go - a huge cinnamon bun which was just as good as the rest of the food. 🥮
Food presentation - can we just talk about how BEAUTIFUL the food was served? Everything came out so perfectly put together - loved the serving trays & cast iron dish the Mac & cheese came out in. Everything is so well thought out here from the decor - the food - the presentation.
If your vegan - or not, come here for a beautiful place to eat with great staff & mind blowing food. Please support this wonderful place as its seriously WONDERFUL. I have been wanting to go here for awhile & was OVER THE MOON with how amazing everything was. I wish I was local… I would totally eat here every week. Until next time Parlor...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place for a very long time. We wanted to try a bit of everything, but I was most interested in trying the "meat" to see if it really tasted like meat.
The appetizer was a garlic bun with cream cheese in the middle. It was so tender that we didn't need a knife to cut it. It was very tasty, but different than we thought it would be as it had a little sweetness to it. The cheese was VERY creamy!
The burger on the Big Maxine was the exact flavor and texture of ground beef. I wouldn't be able to taste the difference - honestly! I was very impressed, but don't be afraid to eat it with a fork as it was fall-apart deliciousness!
I had the truffle fries with the burger and they were cooked to perfection. My only complaint, if there was any, is I couldn't taste the truffle. Maybe adding bits of mushrooms might make a difference? Still, I wasn't disappointed.
I did have a bite of the crunch wrap and it tasted just like the description. The black beans were wonderful and had a nice kick to them. The wrap was cooked to perfect crunchy goodness.
The Mac and Cheese was creamy with a sweet nutty flavor. I'm not a fan of regular Mac and Cheese, so this wasn't a big hit for me.
We then had a blonde brownie with blueberry drizzle that was easily broken in half with our hands as it was moist in the middle. The blueberry drizzle was tart, yet sweet.
They had a big beer selection, mocktails, and sodas as well as iced teas.
More good things about the restaurant was the straws were biodegradable as were the paper carry-out containers. Everything is locally sourced, so they are a step ahead in the aspect of supporting local and sustaining the planet with a low carbon footprint. Because food is seasonal, their menu changes so the current menu can be found by scanning the QR code on the tables - their wifi password is also under the QR code.
They did have a retail section with many local things available to shop from including food items, beauty products, and Parlor City Vegan clothing.
I would definitely eat here again, and though I very much enjoyed the burger, I am interested in trying other menu items.
Very much worth the visit! Many others thought so as the place was packed...
