The Meat Wagon — Local services in City of Kingston

So on our side of the Hudson, in Dutchess and Columbia Countiesat summertime farm stands, but we lack true butchers' shops. So since everything is usually more fun over in Ulster County, we decided to seek out a Kingston butcher since we spend a lot of time in Kingston anyway, we stopped in the other day because we wanted ti solve our 40-year marriage's ongoing dilemma: To be true to the flavor, what is better: NY Strip (me) or Flank (her)? On Friday, because I'd lost the coin toss, I went into the MW and said, unenthusiastically, "Do you have flank steak?" No, they said, but we do have Top Cap. It's like flank, only more tender. So I bought less than I should have, but I wasn't sure. Then I grilled it. Then we used it in three different ways over the next three days, the last of which was tonight, when using it wrapped in roti with tomatoes, scallions, jalapenos, feta and sour cream, it produced the most steak-flavorful wrap in history. I buy all of my meat here. Stefano and his team are super friendly, knowledgeable (seriously. They'll give me tips on how to best cook something if I'm unfamiliar with the cut of meat), kind, and are a huge asset to the area. They know where the meat comes from, and utilize everything, minimizing any food waste. They also keep some pantry items like stock, milk, eggs, and other non perishable goods. Stefano and the team care about and help support the local community. In addition, my dog refuses to eat any other pup treats, because he loves the Meat Wagon's treats so much. Passing through Kingston for the first time and we just came across this establishment on a quiet road.

The sign said meat so naturally, I had to check it out haha.

The staff were super friendly and the meat was banging. You don’t find many places like this where I’m from in NYC (reasonably priced too).

We got a turkey and roast beef sandwich for lunch. They threw in some jerky for us to try which was very good!! I’ve only had classic store bought in a bag jerky so this quality difference was a first for me.

The roast beef was superior and we ended up going back in for a 2nd sandwich to take on the road.
