This place is run by a few pretentious guys that take advantage of whoever they can. All the other reviews on here are solely submitted because of the incentive they give at the counter. 'Give us a 5 star review and use some of these buzzwords and you'll get a free pack or 5 dollars in store credit'. Ridiculous.
I would highly recommend anybody looking to buy or sell cards to do so elsewhere. A friend of mine who isn't extremely up to date on pricing was told all of her cards were worth barely anything. She was convinced to sell around 40 cards for about 300 dollars. I say convinced because they nitpicked every little thing they could in order to make her believe her cards were worth next to nothing and that they were actually doing her a favor buying them at all. For example, she brought in a Mewtwo Star, which had minimal damage. Certainly not near mint, but definitely not heavily played or damaged. These guys kept drilling into her about every little spec on this card and their final determination was that it was damaged. They did the same with the other more common cards she brought in and essentially grouped them into the pricing of the 300 or so for the Mewtwo.
Flash forward a few days and it's now the highest valued card on their site, currently listed for 900+ dollars. A damaged Mewtwo Star would be worth nowhere near this number. So they're either going to lie to a customer about its condition, or they lied to my friend about its condition (the latter is true). On top of that, every other card she was told were worth nothing more than a few dollars a piece are now listed for at least 15 dollars a piece. Multiple others currently listed at 45+ dollars per card.
My best advice to the average consumer would be to look extensively online for trusted places or deal with individual sellers or buyers. I've been in the process of selling my personal collection for about 6 months and never have I seen anything as...
Read moreWent last night with some friends and charged $8 each for draft booster packs of the new D&D Commander Legends. I thought it was high, but figured I was misremembering the going price. Turns out I was right, going price is $4.50 for a Draft Booster, Set Boosters are going for $8 each. It sucks because the owner and I actually have several mutual friends that have known him a long time. Definitely won't be back though.
Edit in response to owner: A near 100% markup is absolutely ridiculous. What I put as the going rate is not just online prices, they're retail prices. While online prices are lower, no other local brick and mortar store is charging near what you are. Kirwan's Game Store, Toy Wiz, and Dragon's Den are all charging $4.99 per draft booster, which is perfectly reasonable for retail. If your costs are so high, I would suggest getting a new distributor (because you're clearly getting gouged) and reviewing your overhead costs. I don't expect a LGS to price match an online only seller, but the prices still have to be reasonably competitive, which yours are...
Read moreThe shop has a decent stock of magic the gathering merchandise and the owner has been helpful, the times that I’ve felt with him. However, every time I’ve dealt with counter guy, he is not helpful and doesn’t seem to care about what’s in stock and won’t normally check the back stock in order to make a sale and/or work with you to give you what you wanted. I’ve called several times and offered to purchase multiple boxes but there prices are usually $40-80 over normal market value for sealed products. (And that is from other small businesses). I understand they are a small business as well but they will no longer receive any business from me or those I know that play the game. A box of commander legends dungeons and dragons that this store sells is $150. Whereas the other small businesses that I shop at are $100-$110 dollars at most. They also offer bulk pricing and discounts whereas ZCGames offers no discounts or pricing adjustments. There are many other small businesses in the Tri-County area that are more worthy of the sale that will appreciate your...
