Disappointed that tough traveler wouldn't stand behind "lifetime" warranty. I have a Cloudsplitter i bought in 1987. Used it quite a bit in 80s and 90s but but infrequently over the next two decades. Kept in the back of my closet, not at all abused. Over time the lashing points have cracked and cannot be used. Current Cloudsplitters use leather lashing points, but older ones like mine used a plastic/nylon material that over time got brittle and cracked. This is an obvious design flaw and not "abuse". Old? Yup, just like me! But the backpack came with a "lifetime" warranty. I brought it in to have the lash points replaced and was told my pack had met it's life time... they wanted to charge to have the replaced! Instead of a satisfied customer singing praises to tough traveler, I left and bought a really nice Osprey pack through REI for less than half the price of a new Cloudsplitter. No, it doesn't have a "lifetime" warranty, but apparently neither did my Cloudsplitter. Made in Schenectady? Frankly I care more about quality, price and standing behind a product than where it is made. For me, tough traveler, you gave Schenectady...
Read moreThis tough traveler bag has been my constant companion nearly my entire life -- and look how well it's holding up! It's practically new!
I received this bag as an award, because I had perfect attendance in the 2nd grade at Howe School in Schenectady. The year was 1983. I'm writing this in 2019 -- that's 36 years later.
It didn't sit in a drawer during that time, either. In middle school, I used it with the Boy Scouts. In high school, I used it for Dungeons and Dragons dice. etc., etc. For the past 10+ years, I have used it for my medical supplies, which I need to access every day. I carry it to work, when I go out, when I go on vacation -- anywhere away from home.
Tough Traveler deserves an award for the astonishingly good condition of this bag. Some cloth is becoming frayed along the left side, as you can just barely make out in the photo -- but apart from that, it's in great shape -- if you didn't look carefully, you could believe it's new.
Thanks for the incredible workmanship of this bag, and I hope you continue to please your customers with your...
Read moreFor more than 30 years I have been purchasing, first tote bags and fanny packs, followed by all sorts of luggage from Tough Traveler and have always been thoroughly satisfied. My latest experience involved trying to find a large fanny pack that I can use for my Geocaching hobby. The staff member worked with me to review all of their offerings and when I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, we designed a custom order which took elements of different items and combined them to meet my needs. My large fanny pack was ready sooner than they had promised and I have been happily using it ever since. I am a committed Tough Traveler customer and don't even consider looking elsewhere. Additionally, while traveling in Portugal last year on a Rick Steves tour, another person on our tour admired my luggage and asked about how to contact Tough Traveler so he could order something from them. Hopefully he's another...
