Woodlands Creek Senior Living — Local services in Clive

My brother and I placed our mother in Woodland's Creek memory care community in May of 2023 and we have been very impressed with all aspects of her new home. Before deciding on Woodlands Creek, we performed a lot of due diligence, research and tours on the other memory care communities around the Des Moines area. We found that Woodlands Creek has the most well rounded approach to memory care.

Firstly, the care is outstanding. I mean, we had high expectations beforehand, but we have been blown away by everyone on the nurse and care staff. They work hard and go out of their way to show they really care about the residents. They check on the residents on a frequent basis and have professional and kind communication skills in order to get them involved in the daily activities. They record all the activities that each resident participates in or doesn't participate in so that I can monitor it on a special App (It includes weekly pictures as well!) The culture from the head of nursing is nothing short of outstanding.

Talking about culture, it is strong and healthy throughout the community. From the time you walk through the door and are greeted, staff members are friendly and approachable. I have always felt safe and secure as well. The rooms are cleaned weekly, and laundry is done weekly. The meals are healthy and very tasty and the ice cream and snacks are plentiful. Lastly, some places will nickel and dime the residents for every little extra service provided. Woodlands Creek is all inclusive. Welcoming, Bright, Clean, Caring, Family. All words to describe this place. My grandparents moved to Woodlands Independent Living Center around 10 years ago. The staff treated them like family from day one. As their health declined our family made the hardest decision to move them to Assisted Living. The greatest part was, that we were not alone during that decision. The staff who had become like family, guided us through it, and made the transition smooth. The best part is the assisted living has the caring staff that we had in independent in the same complex. My grandfather unfortunately passed in 2019. Once again, I was amazed at the tender and loving care that my grandpa received. He was able to stay in his residence and receive hospice care. There are no words to describe how peaceful his passing was due to Woodlands Creek. When Covid arrived, nothing changed. The staff were able to make sure we maintained in communication with our family, and my grandmother never felt the stress that Covid had on the rest of the world. They made sure to create a place to talk with my grandmother so we were able to visit at a safe distance. My grandmother is still currently residing there and I wouldn't change it for the world. After my father passed, my husband and I visited several independent living facilities. We narrowed them down to three, then took my mother to visit those three. She selected Woodlands Creek Independent Living. She lived in her apartment for two years before experiencing some health complications. She decided it was time to move to the Assisted Living building. Her transition couldn’t have been smoother. The Director of Nursing visited my mother before and after her transition. The staff from the Independent AND the Assisted Living buildings worked together to ease the transition. And one of the things my mother still talks about was how much she appreciated walking into her new home and seeing her friends from Independent Living. They are her extended family.

Shortly after she moved to Assisted Living, COVID-19 turned ugly. For the safety of all, the residents were confined to their apartments. But family could visit via windows or FaceTime, Zoom or anyway possible to stay in touch safely. This precaution, although not the preferred method, kept COVID away from the residents. NOT ONE ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENT CONTRACTED COVID!
