Please stop stalking my Social Media(I'm a kid). We came to Hockman to shop. I have video. The table was a small concern we still needed all the other stuff that you are usually happy to help us put together when we open new homes. It was very scary to be cursed at. I was scared when Mr. Devan called the police on me and my mom for kindly asking to speak to the owner when he said that he could not help us. Mr. Devan tolds us that Mrs. Sherry would be returning later. We believed him, even though she never came to help us. We did not know she was in the other store down the hall telling Mr. Devan to be mean to us. Every since I was little I have sat around this store while my mom waited to be inspired, so that we could finish decorating something for our homes that serve people with disabilties. Mrs . Sherry knows the work we do to help people with disabilties. She was usually nice and helpful to us. A lot of people sit around this store. They might be working on their phone and browsing. I think most people browse around furniture stores. Sometimes it takes time to know what rug, which picture, or the best lamp to choose. That activity has not been a crime for others in the store. People should not be mean to someone trying to get help from a person who owns a business, especially when you know them for years as a nice person who supports your business. I was so nervous. I am happy that my mom tried to distract me by asking Mrs. Bev to show me how to karate chop my pillows in my room. Mrs. Bev also seemed scared and uncomfortable with Mr. Devan's profanity and yelling. When someone is mistreating another person it is good to try to help. Bullies never win. It is better to treat people nicely. I don't know about your tax situation. I think most grown ups would have come into the store to fix a tax problem or any other concern in their business. It is bullying to do what you are doing. My mom calls it "throwing a rock and hiding your hand." Although it was shocking to learn it is clear to us now who threw the rock. Now trying to talk about my family, our homes, and the people that we help is not nice. Trying to have us arrested is very bad. I hope that you won't continue being mean to people who have supported you for years. My father did not leave us, he would never do that. He sat in his truck because he is an African American male and we know that a misleading police situation could end his life. My father carried the table for us because it was too heavy for us and he has a truck. My father also hates shopping. I know you probably don't understand our experience as minorities but we know to be very respectful when being falsely accused in a situation like this. We did not curse at you or the others in the store. We have always been nice customers. I am saddened that you think this is a way to treat people. Any person. I did not expect that I might need to run or escape like a bad person being chased by police or like a criminal. I did not think that we could be arrested or maybe shot in the back for running like criminals from a furniture store that I have visited since I was a little girl. We were waiting for you to return from your emergency like Mr. Devan said you would. We didn't know that we were being deceived. We did not know that you were telling Mr. Devan to do this to us. I am glad that we waited to tell the police the truth and I am glad that they believed us. It can take courage to stand up to a bully. It can take courage to talk and fix important problems. I am glad that we did and that the officers did not try to hurt my mother my father or me. They knew that we were telling the truth and that we were being mistreated. I learned many important lessons that day. Being mean and bullying people is never right. We were treated wrong but we did the right thing to try to kindly talk about a problem. We did not treat Mr. Devan the way he treated us. We did not curse at him. Although I was scared. I know that prayer helped us to follow the Golden Rule. I am proud that we did. I have the video on...
Read morePlease refrain from shopping here. I am a local, minority and woman-owned business owner who decided to report the horrendous trauma that I suffered at the hands of this merchant. I have shopped at Hockman furniture for years (for my own home, for my disabled patients, my clients, and to furnish my short-term rentals). Regrettably, I have also referred dozens of people to Hockman Interiors. We have never reported our negative experiences. We also did not report some of the less than negative experiences that we've had with Hockman over the years (as the good experiences have never outweighed the bad). As readers can readily discern from the eighteen adverse reviews (as of today 05/08/2023) and some of the owner's responses, several customers have reported the lack of transparency regarding charges (including delivery and design fees). Many have expressed their experiences with defective furniture, disorganization, dirt, and clutter. Others report the lack of respectful treatment and service due to discriminatory profiling of their athletic attire, or because of their race and/or disability status. Our experiences are REAL and they are not unique to a single person or isolated event. An experienced and authentic business owner expects and accepts that regular mishaps can occur in the day-to-day operations of ANY business. Regular shoppers of fine furniture also know that furniture can be chipped, cracked, scratched or damaged in transport, or in the store. Adulting requires us to learn that things happen in real life. Quality merchants carry insurance for this, they do not deceive customers or expect them to take the loss. Misunderstandings happen; and anyone could mistakenly be charged for an item. To criminalize a person of color and to assign malicious intent to them is not the "go to impulse," and "stick to goal" of a morally inclined business person. Professionalism, business ethics, GOOD LEADERSHIP, cultural empathy, employee education, INTEGRITY, morality, diversity, INCLUSIVITY, humility, flexibility, and compassion are among the principles, qualities, and processes that are lacking with this ownership. It is always prudent to treat people well and to readily acknowledge when you have made an error in judgment. You never know the impact that a single customer is having, it can extend beyond the impulsivity and knowledge deficit of a reckless employee. As consumer interest in brick and mortars wane (and declining profits mean closing your doors an additional day i.e., Mondays) it could be prudent to put more emphasis on how you treat people? A good business will not attempt to balance its losses on the backs of their "valued customers." They would never seek to defame an individual, or to have them arrested for making a kind and lawful request to reconcile a problem in their establishment. Successful designing and furnishing homes is more involved than matching up a few pieces of nice furniture for individuals that look like you. Business owners who limit their interest to specific groups, (whose concerns that they consider to be worthy of their time) will not prosper in the long run. I am hopeful that Hockman Interiors will soon decide to invest energy into turning the walls that they are fervently building to keep people out (sideways), into concillatory bridges that can welcome ALL people in. Any person with intelligence, who actually takes the time to ponder these these 1* and 2 *star reviews...surely will understand that this review has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the return policy at Hockman Interiors. I hope this merchant will change its ways. In the interim, NOone should risk having to suffer the indignities described, when shopping at...
Read moreSkip this place, they are HORRIBLE! It would not have been so surprising to Hockman Interiors if another child was afraid in this bogus police situation. The reply to 13 y/o Kayla's Bakery is obscene. Since the police didn't work for fake criminal charges, now you're attempting to imply criminality when you know that this professional client has used Hockman Interiors to help furnish many of her homes that are used to support individuals with disabilities. Hockmans will now attempt to re-write the tax code to disparage and criminalize an African American consumer by misleading others in this forum. First Hockmans is claiming that the transaction was complete, and therefore the consumer's presence in the store was unlawful. Now they're posting that business was in fact NOT OVER and that a tax id is needed to complete this consumer's transaction. Which is it? It can't be both, which is the truth? Which is the lie? Hockman Interiors continues to pursue great lengths to try to hurt this small, African-American, female business owner who has spent tens of thousands in their establishment. You invalidate your false and defamatory comments with your own replies. This is how Hockman Interiors treats a consumer that this ownership described as a "valued client for 5 years." Imagine how they would treat you? The replies bragging about the owner's alleged gifts to local charities, cannot excuse the pattern of discrimination that is revealed in her replies and by the biased business practices that are permitted & promoted by the sales persons and owner of Hockman Interiors. Suddenly (after Hockman Interiors has been exposed) we are to believe that somehow hundreds of people (mostly family members, employees who need their jobs, friends, and anyone who walks in and wants a discount) have overnight become so pleased with this HORRIBLE merchant. Please stop the deception by also soliciting fake 5-star reviews to bury the truth. Avoid this HORRIBLE merchant at all costs! Paying for fake reviews...
