I have been going to this salon for 3 years and drive 1.5 hours both ways for appointments. I haven't had a problem until my most recent visit. I normally don't write reviews, but this bad experience overshadows the few good ones. The stylists do a good job, but the customer service is horrible when it comes to handling criticism about your service. My cousin emailed the owner telling him that it was upsetting getting charged $95 for a style and cut, when I only got a dry cut(picture attached). It's absurd to pay that much money for a trim that took 15 minutes and an updo that takes 30 seconds to do. When we called, the response we got from the owner was that he disagrees and thinks that the price is fair, basically telling us that the way we felt about the service I received is WRONG and nothing was done to make up for my dissatisfaction. HIS OPINION IS NOT THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS THAT HE DIDN'T OFFER A SOLUTION. All this came from the owner, which should be the person that should act the most professional and show the most concern, but instead he addressed us with sass and no real concern for our my business. If you care, you will go out of your way to make sure the customer leaves 100% satisfied, especially for the money customers pay. With this negative experience, I learned that this business prioritizes money over customers, which is why I will no longer give them my business.

They advertise themselves as a curly hair salon but they actually only specialize in loose curls that are not very textured. I brought my 5 year old biracial daughter in for a trim and it was horrific. She left with completely dried out hair. My daughter has tighter coils and I wish the stylist would have just admitted to not being able to handle her curl type instead of trying to grill me on what products I put in her hair. I felt like she was gaslighting me as she knew she wouldn’t be able to do a good job on her hair. I’ve always used professional quality products on her hair as recommended by her previous stylist who relocated. She kept saying her hair was very dry (which it’s not) but then sat her under the dryer for 25 mins. They also wouldn’t let me stay back with her and I had to sit in the front which I thought was strange too as I’ve always accompanied her at her previous salon since she’s so young. $200 completely wasted because I had to go redo her hair as soon as we got home. Never again. I’m attaching a photo of how the stylist did to her hair and what her hair looks like when I do it. The Purple Heart photo is what they did and the green heart is how her hair normally looks when I do it. So maybe only go here if you have looser curls because their techniques are not it.

I found the salon & Cheyenne on Instagram, & after watching their feeds for a while, I decided to schedule an appointment, although I live in St. Louis. I'm a naturally curly girl, but I've never had a curly cut, so I was super excited to see Cheyenne! I was greeted promptly upon arrival at the shop, & Cheyenne asked me questions about my hair. After that, she jumped right into cutting & styling. She focused solely on me & my hair the whole time. Everyone in the shop was super nice. After she was finished, I LOVED my hair!!! I've never felt so good about my curls after a cut as I did when she finished! Before, I really wasn't happy with the back of my hair because after being cut straight so many times by 'stylist' that didn't know how to deal with kiinky curly hair, my curls just never laid right in the back. After finishing, once Cheyenne showed me the back of my hair, I literally cried tears of joy! I scheduled my next 6 month appointment before I left.

I couldn’t figure out what to get by the descriptions, so I called and got Jason on the phone. I explained to Jason that my hair is very curly and it very long making it a bit harder to deal with and asked for his advice since I only wanted a wash and style. Jason told me that all the stylists there were equally qualified to do my type of hair, and that I could get the Express Service to fit my needs and leave with my hair wet to return to work. During the service he keeps telling me what I was doing wrong he said the products I use are too heavy and that I use a harsh shampoo to wash all of it out and that is damaging for my hair. That I need to stop using a comb because I cause breakage by combing from root and dragging the knots down. I comb my hair from the tips up, and he finger combed my hair from the root down. I could hear the snaps at the ends of my hair and see my hair in his fingers and all over the floor. This was obviously more breakage and hair loss than normal. However, I just let it be because I’ve had worse stylists, and like a dummy I didn’t want to offend him. Besides, I have tons of hair so one session of this isn’t going to make a big deal. The last comment was about my ends looking frizzy while he had my head in the shampoo bowl, and it was because my ends were super tangled since he was finger combing from the root to tip and not doing a good job by removing the shed hair through the ends. Jason did say some nice things , he said he can tell that I take really good care. Afterwards he recommended their products. I wasn’t sure how my hair was going to turn out when dry, since there was white stuff all over it. Jason assured me that it will look how it is, but without the white residue. I bought the products. When I got home and my hair dried, it looked and felt terrible. There was white stuff and it was stiff with flakes flying. So I called the salon, but no answer. I had to drive to the salon to speak to someone to return the products and Jason was there, he said there was an issue because I left the salon and he couldn’t fix it. He admitted to putting too much product in my hair to clump my curls. If this is a thing wouldn’t it be reasonable to tell the customer they can’t leave on their first visit with their hair still wet? You cannot over compensate for something not working, by applying a ton more. Fast forward, it looked like my bank only counted one hair product back for a refund, so I called the salon again, no answer again. I went to the salon and this time talked to owner and I went over the story of why I returned the product and about my refund. The salon owner kept making excuses for the service, when all I wanted was my refund. First he said I got more service than I paid for, and that I need to read the description next time online before choosing a service. That would make sense, IF I didn’t call and get a recommendation from them! Then he said I needed a more experienced stylist someone who will put treatments in my hair and cut where necessary. This would be reasonable IF Jason didn’t tell me all of the stylist there was equally qualified to do my hair type and I don’t want strangers to cut my hair so that is not an option for me. I need to know if they can even do my hair first before they use scissors. Then, he said my hair was heat damaged and that I don’t wear it natural and wear it in mostly twist outs which also causes ā€œsome issuesā€. At this point, I just said thank you, I don’t have any heat damage in my hair, I flat iron my hair once a year and probably less than that. My hair has the same curl from to tip and is very soft and full. AND I don’t mostly wear twists and there is no way he could know what I do to my hair. I was wearing twists during this conversation and he only saw me twice in my entire life. The people in this salon are very unprofessional and outright judgmental. I was surprised because I didn’t think he would be so unprofessional by blaming customers for things that are caused by their poor...

I really wanted to like this place, and I’m sure I would’ve had a great experience if I actually got to get my hair done, but I had such a poor customer service experience just trying to get a consultation that I have to give this place one star.

I wanted to treat myself a little bit and get a pretty drastic cut and color by Evan. I called and asked if I’d be able to come in for a consultation. The man who answered the phone told me that he didn’t have any availability that day, but that there was a hair cut cancellation the next day at 4:30. I said that sounded good and I’d see them there.

What the man on the phone did NOT tell me is that there is a $75 cancellation fee, and that if I took the 4:30 time slot, that $75 would be transferred to me from the person who cancelled their haircut. I am absolutely certain I wasn’t told this, because I never would’ve agreed to a $75 consultation.

I showed up the next day and checked in at the front desk. They told me they had scheduled me for a style. I responded that I didn’t want a style, I just came in to show Evan a few pictures of what I wanted, get his opinion and a price estimate and then schedule the appointment. The man checking me in told me they just scheduled me for a style in case I wanted one. I didn’t want one, but I just said okay, I’m still just here for the consultation.

I waited for about 10 minutes and then Evan greeted me. We walked over to the chair and I told him, again, that I just wanted to show him some pictures from Pinterest and get his opinion on how light and short I should go with my hair, and get a price estimate. This is when he told me that I would pay $75 for the consultation. I told him I was not informed of that on the phone the previous day, and that I literally just wanted to show him pictures. I had no clue why I’d pay $75 for them to not even touch my hair.

Evan told me it wouldn’t be that much more for me to get my haircut at that moment. I told him I didn’t want to cut my hair at that moment, hence the consultation. He asked me who I spoke to on the phone the previous day and I couldn’t remember the name but told him it was a man. Instead of apologizing for any misunderstanding or try to figure out who it was I spoke to, he responded with ā€œwell my staff are very well trained,ā€ implying that this was my fault and/or that I was mistaken. I was really taken aback. I’m sure they’re a very qualified and well-trained staff, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an occasional slip-up. Again, I was certain I hadn’t been told about the fee because I wouldn’t be sitting in the chair at that moment if I were told that information. At this point, I didn’t even want the consultation, I just wanted to leave. Evan told me I STILL needed to pay the $75 even if I didnt get a consultation.

It was so weird; I legitimately felt trapped in the salon being forced to pay a pretty steep fee I was never informed of. I told him to give me a minute, I went into the lobby to look at their cancellation policy. According to the website, you pay a $75 cancellation fee if you cancel or don’t show up for your appointment within 24 hours of the appointment. I didn’t cancel anything, in fact I was early to my appointment, so I had NO a clue how someone else’s actions would cost me $75. I’m not proud of this, but felt so frustrated with the lack of communication and respect I received that I just walked out the door.

Evan was immediately harsh and unprofessional and rather than trying to find a resolution, seemed to just want to get my money from me. I was so disappointed since I had saved up a bit for this cut and color, but since I received such poor customer service from this salon, I definitely...

Updates 2025 April. Karrington has been cutting my hair and Oohlala!! she is MAGIC. I’ve never had my curls look sooooo amazing. She’s gotten to know my hair. All I know is I wish I had every product she used in three days to do it all over again. She is so good. She is a true master of curls. She’s an artist. If she goes to another state, then I guess I fly somewhere three times a year! Yep. That good. 😊. I can’t believe anyone in all of the world is better than karrington.

Evan is a creative genius and an awesome business man! I felt like a palette in an artists hands. Great salon, Great vibe, Great people and wonderful energy!!! Discovered Sam Smiths song lala land while I was there and lots of Deva Curl Wonder tricks!! Thanks everyone!! See you soon:))) Attorney Catherine White, Columbus and New Albany Ohio.

UPDATED Nov 2023

Karringtonj is so amazing with curls. She’s literally a dream. She cut and styled my hair after I’ve been struggling with a terrible chopped shagged thinning shear nightmare cut from someone who should NOT have anyone with curly hair near him.

To make a long story short I got the MOST horrendous thinned out cut that shocked my curls. They were gone! My wonderful hairdresser who does my color tried for four months to fix it but the hair was so cut into and shagged she didn’t know what to do. Let’s face it, not everyone can cut curly hair. I felt so ugly everyday. Every morning was a struggle. Walking around I turned my head from people.

Oddly, the salon had an appt cancellation on a day I just couldn’t take it any longer. I went and OMGosh, amazing. KarringtonJ rounded my hair to shape it properly and cut each piece. My curls are back and my hair is amazing. I also got some great products and I’m literally beautiful again. She knew right away what happened before I spoke when she said..ā€someone shagged your hair.ā€

Thank you thank you thank you!!! You are a true artist and apparently very well trained. I can’t say enough good words about what this young lady did for my curls and for my self esteem. Also she is a wonderfully joyful darling young lady!!! Thank you.

And btw when I told her certain pieces needed to be shorter, she said NO. She told me they needed to be longer. She knows exactly what she is doing. Amazing. Thank you a million times over for your expertise...
