I have mixed emotions about this place.
On the down side, I was treated badly due to the incompetence of their staff, namely the assistant manager, over a poorly planned promotion they ran. They handed out $25 gift certificates that were almost illegible in the inscription fields, and without informing me that it was valid that day only. The certificate itself was clearly printed with "No expiration date" in an upper corner. The employees I dealt with became suddenly dense, unable to chew gum and walk, and refused to acknowledge their blunder. It sent me a clear message that my business didn't matter since I wasn't a swanky Lake Norman yuppie that dropped thousands there on a regular basis. After giving them several opportunities to make the matter right, they never bothered to even acknowledge their mistake. I don't find the customer service as phenomenal as others do, to say the least. In an effort to hang on to $25, they lost far more than that.
In fairness, I have found a few decent bargains there once in a great while. On average, the prices are ridiculous and geared towards those with posh salaries, or traveling through and looking for souvenirs. The place is largely a mix of vintage, and junk, with little in the way of genuine antiques. It's a great venue to stroll and browse if you have an afternoon to kill, and don't want to sit at home.
I found the restaurant overpriced, and the quality of the food was lacking. I wouldn't eat...
Read moreThe Depot is incredible! It's also HUGE but there are so many beautiful things to check out. If you see something you can't live without, you better purchase it before you leave because chances are someone else will snatch it up.
There's also a lot of junk but the good massively outweighs the not so good. There are things of all price ranges too. The building itself, in my opinion at least, is gorgeous. I love the old, creaky wood floors. The large windows that let in tons of beautiful, natural light. I'm partial to old, rustic things anyways so this is like shopping heaven for me.
The first time I visited The Depot, I spent several hours here and still didn't get through the entire thing. I stopped to look at a lot of things though. As an homage to yesteryear, the different sections are named after rooms from the mill.
You can even grab a snack or a bite to eat while you're here at Ellie's Diner, located in the cotton room. I haven't eaten here yet myself but I did grab a drink. The food certainly smelled good and there were quite a few people dining.
If you spend enough money per visit you'll receive a punch card so after X amounts of dollars spent per visit you can receive a discount. And if you're anything like me you'll have to hold back so you don't spend too much. There is just so many awesome things to...
Read moreOh My! Prepare to be impressed or overwhelmed. I am a husband to a wonderful woman that loves antique malls. I have been to many antique malls and I quickly find a place to sit in every place that I visit. Well The Depot served both of us well. My wife loved this place. It is marketed as the largest Antique Mall in the South. I would have to agree. I have been to many and this is by far the largest. Let me put it this way, if there is one larger, I hope we never find it. The Depot was huge. The building is a refurbished Mill. When you walk in you see the vastness of the space. When you get to the first cross aisle, you realize that there are more sections of the building that seem to go on forever. Two hours into this visit, i found an enclosure called the man cave. In the man cave, they have leather chairs and a television. Right outside the man cave, they have a refreshment area. These are the two areas that I spent the remaining 3 hours, of this 5 hour visit. For those of you that like Antique Malls , filled with 100's of booths, this is the place. For those of you like me, walk in the door and ask the employees to escort you to "Man Cave". There is no remote for the TV but you can change the channel on...
