I like the food selections very much.
Employees are rarely found in isles if you have questions. I usually only see vendors or personal shoppers. The personal shoppers will help you. The vendors hate it when you talk to them and always act like they were teleported to the isle they are in and couldn’t possibly navigate their way anywhere else or help you find anything, at all, at anytime, forever and ever, amen.
The housewares department is always fun. They usually have something unusual or interesting set up. ex. Cowhides rugs, candles shaped like crosses.
The Seafood Department usually acts as if they hate their job and resent it when they actually have to select seafood and wrap it for you. They probably have better things to do like socialize behind the counter. Most of the time they have a good selection. Very good Trout. Not great Sockeye, it’s always bruised.
They could improve on the foreign food selections. For example: Latin Food.
Not everyone who is Hispanic is Mexican. I know -total shocker! There are more countries south of Mexico. Also in the Caribbean. I know right about now I am blowing everyone’s mind. But it’s true! This information can be fact-checked by looking at any world map. Any world map, found in any location, anywhere on the planet. I promise. -or you could review 4th grade geography. Either option will prove I am delivering facts. Or you could travel, beyond Mexico to other Latin countries with safer and fancier, shinier cities. But just opening a book with words and maps is a good baby step.
There are other foods like Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian food. (examples of Latin countries) Those are just 3 examples. I could keep going to the other 18 countries but I don’t want to overwhelm the under-educated. So perhaps they could offer more foods from those countries. And also maybe not call the Hispanic Isle the “Mexican Isle”. Again, not the only Hispanic country. These are not just college-level facts. All this info is covered by the time most people are ten years old.
Yet still I like the store. It’s clean and very tidy. The HEB on 336 is far superior to the HEB in the Woodlands -never go there. All of those employees are mean and gross to look at...
Read moreThis HEB is decent but it is not my first choice when I am looking for specific things. They do have most items that you would expect and the produce selection is the best out of all of the supermarkets, bar none.
I say that this HEB is not my first choice because in the time that I have lived in Conroe, I have seen them get rid of certain products that I can find at other locations. One example is Motor City Pizza Co Pizzas. When I moved to Conroe at the end of 2021, they had all three varieties. Soon, I noticed that you could only find the Meat Lovers. Now, they don't sell them at all. If I go to the Willis or Woodlands locations, I find all three varieties. The same story applies to various products.
Another complaint I have is the bakery. Sure, you can get all sorts of cookies, pies and breads. I personally like to buy the German sourdough bread (Bauernbrot). When I went to pick up a loaf, I notice that the slices are very thick, when they are supposed to be half the thickness. Thinking this is not an issue and that the blades can be adjusted on their slicer, I inquired and was told that they are not able to be adjusted. Then why does every other HEB bakery slice the bread at the correct thickness? Only this location does this.
Other than that, the store is OK. Customer service is good. I had purchased salami that happened to have mold on it (can't blame the store for this, it can happen sometimes)and was able to return and exchange it for a new package with no hassle. Most of the employees are friendly and willing to help when ask.
For the quick stop, I go here because it is right down the road from where I live. If I need to do bigger shopping, I'd rather take the drive to the Willis location, which is much bigger, nicer and has the complete...
Read moreUpdate 10/22/24 for the review below, written 3 months ago: Despite the reassuring response to my review from their customer service department, below, nothing has been done. There's no ice machine and the guys in the seafood department just shrug and look embarrassed when I ask if/when. The morale in that department has gone down steadily, as has the quality of the seafood. Here's my original review from July: Yes, one star - for one reason: the seafood department. 3-4 months ago their ice maker broke. No ice in a seafood shop is a death knell. Did HEB mobilize the forces and move heaven and earth to fix or replace that critical machine? Not even close. Talking to the seafood manager and then the store manager, I was told that they're a "low priority" store and that it will be 6-7 MONTHS(!) before they get a new or fixed machine. WHAT?!? A multi-billion dollar company can't get an ice maker for one of the busiest departments in a very busy store?!? The decline in quality from this one department has been heartbreaking. The whole corner of the store often smells of bad fish - the kiss of death for a seafood shop. And a month ago we took back $25 of fresh haddock after it stunk up our whole kitchen when we opened the bag. Two months ago I called HEB's main customer service department in San Antonio. In retrospect I was totally snowed by the nicest "vice president in customer service". He was empathetic, sincere, and professed to be shocked that this had happened and "will certainly look into this - it shouldn't happen". Net impact of these very nice words: nothing. Of course. I don't know what I was thinking... So HEB, what's the deal? Is this how you...
