Terrible customer service delivered by dishonest staff with an attitude problem.
Went Tuesday (5/13) to return a few shirts from an online order, started at the "Customer Service" register in the women's section. After a brief wait, was told to go to the register in the men's section. After waiting several more minutes, was told to go to the register cosmetics section. The woman at the cosmetics section refused to honor the return policy and tried to insist on a exchange instead of a refund. The lead cashier appeared to tell me their system has been down for the last week, told me my card could not be refunded, then told me a cash refund was also not possible. After insisting on a refund and not an exchange, magically, the impossible cash refund was suddenly possible and promptly handled.
Returned for a second return this afternoon on an ill-fitting shirt, for some reason Belk online broke up an order of 5 shirts into three shipments, and received the same run-around being sent section to section for a simple return that, thankfully, was processed appropriately this time. Upon checkout, witnessed the cashier harass an elderly man into providing his personal information he did not wish to provide, only to tell him "Corporate doesn't like it if we opt you out" after he caved on the fifth try.
I've shopped Belk for over twenty years across the state of South Carolina, I've never seen such a disrespectful staff as this. Truly a blight...
Read moreIt's the only department store left in our town and has a pretty good selection of everything from infants to women's and men's plus some housewares and bedding. However they pack so much in the place it's oftentimes hard to get around, especially if you have someone in a wheelchair. They've only one entrance to the store now since COVID, which also makes it difficult to park and go into departments that used to be closer to an entrance without having to walk through the whole store. They seem very depleted of staff as well, although all of the clerks there have always been extremely helpful, but it seems as though the only clerks available now are the ones at the registers. Did you have some pretty good sales and it is best to wait for those as much of the merchandise is regular prices are higher than what I would ever pay and the sales bring them down to what they should be priced at to begin with. The coupons offered frequently can be misleading though as they always state, "limited exclusions", and then 80% of the brands in the store are excluded! Be sure to read...
Read moreWhat in the world? This used to be such a pretty store. Prices have always been all over the place and there were a few years where the quality of clothing left a lot to be desired. The mid to end of last year I purchased a nice dress on line and did a curbside pick up. No worries and the dress was nice and reasonably priced. I went in Memorial Day weekend this year and, what?? It is not in my blood to pay $20-$40 for an infant or toddlers short set or for a cute little summer dress for a five year old! There were sales going on, true enough, but you had to spend at least a hundred dollars to benefit. That was inside. I almost didn't go in as all the entrances are closed other than the front. The parking lot was trashy. The landscaping, or lack thereof, was enough to make me shake my head in wonder. With prices being like they were inside, I would certainly expect the grounds to be manicured but the weeds and all the dead "greenery" gave the building an abandoned appearance. Probably won't be back, at least no time soon. And Belk... Get yourselves some landscapers...
