We stopped in at Nora Mill Granary on a whim while driving by on vacation. We originally drove right by, but quickly stopped and turned around. It simply looked interesting and the parking lot was full, so we thought there must have been something going on. The granary was a full fledged mill. The staff was busy grinding meal and flour just as it had been done years before while kids from very young to very old watched with fascination. What a great experience! While there you can purchase grains they make along with a huge variety of interesting gadgets, jellies, condiments, canned edibles...just everything! We picked up some Georgia Ice Cream (grits) and some of the granary’s fish batter which also is used for fried green tomatoes, onion rings etc. and some Rhubarb jam - OMG every thing we bought was amazing! If you haven’t had stone ground grits - you have been missing out. The batter mix tasted a bit salty when we mixed it up, but we’ve made friend onion rings, battered mushrooms, cauliflower and broccoli and they all turned out wonderfully and were seasoned perfectly with nothing additional needed. The rhubarb jam is just perfect. My grandma couldn’t have made it better. We enjoyed our purchases so much that we found their site online and stocked up on several additional items. We ordered these during the height of COVID 2020 and were amazed that they arrived within a few days!! If you are in the area - definitely...

We spent a day in Helen on our way home from Murphy, NC. My cousin had read about this place and we thought it sounded interesting so we stopped in. It is a working mill that was established in the 1870s and they still use the original stones to make flour, biscuit mix, cornmeal, grits, and more which I thought was really cool! There are lots of different products from the granary part and then also things like jams, salsas, hot sauces, syrups, and a lot of other things. It’s a perfect spot to pick up a unique gift or to bring home something to cook with for yourself. My cousin and I both grabbed a bag of their Grandma’s Biscuit and Pancake Mix. It even came with a little biscuit cutter which I thought was a nice touch.

Along with the store having an interesting story and cool products, there’s also a really pretty view of the river behind the shop. Also, huge shout out to the nice staff. We got there very close to closing time and they still let us in and allowed us to walk around for a bit which was very kind of them. If you’re in the Helen area, you should definitely stop by and check...

we were up visiting from SC so we stopped to get our grits. We always get the big bag to hold us over. we also trying the Chatahochee cereal. we were a little disappointed that the lady at the register couldn't make a recommendation between that and the 10 grain cereal. she said she had never tried them. We gave some of our grits to a neighbor in SC and he could tell the difference between them and his store bought . So we are taking him home a 2lb bag abs another 2lb bag for another neighbor to convert him from store bought grits as well. we love the oatmeal it comes out perfect everything. we didn't need any this trip. we will be sharing some of ours with a fellow neighbor that loves oatmeal. we are glad you ship. Just incase we run out. we also love your sweet potato pan cake. we got another bag of that on this trip. only recommendation is have your staff try your different products or educate on the taste or textures once cooked so that they can make a...

I thought this place was great, and I loved the grits and porridge mix I bought on my first visit. However, after sitting in my pantry for two months one of my bags of porridge became infested with some sort of bug. I thought it may have been my fault, even though none of my other dry goods had bugs in them. I made a second visit and restocked my grits and porridge, and after several months the same thing happened again, this time to my grits! This time I had placed the grits bag in an airtight ziplock bag which has no holes in it, so the bug eggs had to be in the cloth bag or the grits themselves. None of my other dry goods have bugs, and I have moved since the first purchase I made so it is not the location. I give them 2 stars for maintaining a working grist mill and stocking a lot of local goods, but don't buy any dry goods from them you plan on storing in your pantry unless you want to be disappointed later.

Historic site and very beautiful location. This mill is still in operation. They have wide selection of meal, flour, baking supplies, and more! Summer time is the best time to feed the Trout. The waterfalls are beautiful and power this lovely old mill. Plenty of jams, butters, and jellies to sample! Parking is limited directly at the Mill, if you're driving a larger vehicle that is a boat, park across the street. No parking on the porch! As a visitor very rudely did while we were there! Will continue to enjoy our visits through the year!

An actual working mill with a real, live miller! When we went on Friday, he was grinding corn for grits and you could see it going up the elevator and down the chutes, it's fun to watch. I returned on a Wednesday and he wasn't milling anything. There are yellow and white corn grits in 1, 2, 5, and 10 lbs sizes, 5 lbs will set you back about $12. There's also flour, cornmeal, loads of baking mixes and other food, candy, souvenirs, cooking utensils and you can go out back to watch the mill work, see the dam, and feed the fish and geese.
