We moved to the area from Western New York and alas, we couldn't fit our old mower into the moving truck. (I am SO disappointed! NOT!)
I had done all my research and already had a new mower picked out at one of the big box stores. My wife, on her own accord, stopped into Cortland Mower just to see what they had to offer and how the prices compared.
Much to our surprise, Cortland Mower offered the SAME EXACT mowers available at the big box store at the SAME EXACT price. All about supporting, small businesses, that is all the reason we needed to give Cortland Mower our business.
My wife and I went in a few days later with our heart set on a particular model of Cub Cadet self-propelled push mower. The staff actually convinced us that despite the Cub Cadet having more horsepower, it was a front-wheeled drive transmission. Ok? So? "Just try pushing it around the store," he said. We quickly got the point. With all the extra hardware at the front end of the mower, it made it front-heavy, and pivoting the mower on the back wheels just a little harder.
Instead, he showed us a less expensive, rear-wheeled drive Toro motor that made a world of difference. With all the weight on the rear axle, it made pivoting and turning effortless. Who knew!? Certainly no one at the big box store. That's what first-hand knowledge and personalized service gets you.
As we made our purchase, Cortland Mower kept on giving us MORE reasons that we made the right decision to buy from them:
They would assemble, prepare and test our new push mower for us before we'd pick it up.
They were prepared to deliver our mower to the house if we didn't have the means to pick it up.
They loaded us up with a lot of nice swag. I LOVE my coffee mug!
They gave us courteous service with a smile!
All that AFTER the purchase! It definitely reaffirmed that we made the right choice in buying from Cortland Mower. ...
Read moreFor years, I relied on Cortland mowers to keep my mower running. Rattled more and more with each service. Big mistake. Recently, their service went from "just okay" to downright awful. Instead of helpful technicians, I got stuck with a phone rep reading from a script who had zero emotion and was not at all helpful. I pleaded with her but it was like hitting a brick wall over and over again. I politely asked for the owner and while chewing her gum, the owner came on. He came on lit and gruff right from the get-go not knowing who is on the other line nor cared to ask. His gruff and hostile way spoke loudly to how under-appreciated our loyalty is. A simple hello dear customer allow me to pull up your account. Get a read, get a grip and then act. He did nothing of the kind. I was shocked at how indifferent they have become. When challenged with do you know who I am, he shouted BYE and slammed the phone. That was inappropriate. That was unacceptable and was their last chance to show-up for a long standing loyal customer.
So long, Cortland! Sad… but your complacency, rudeness and overall indifference has cost you a long and good standing customer who never ever has made a demand but rather has been nothing but loyal and kind. There are plenty of other shops out there (pssst just down the road) who actually appreciate our business and treat us with respect. Don't waste...
Read moreThis place is useless if you do not have a part number, and even with a part number they can not cross reference a part either, I brought in a belt with model of lawn tractor, cut size, and I knew the belt size, they couldn't even go and try and match the size on the wall of belts they have.
Went to advanced Auto just to see if they had a belt, they didn't but they tried their hardest to find the size and even directed me to their competitor that did have it, will never use Cortland mower again, it's not the first time either, had to buy a carb for a Briggs, they needed that exact part number but wouldn't even try to look for something...
