I've taken clothing to Dad's Shop before and the experience was okay at best. I found the owner to be inappropriate (talking about politics or random stream-of-consciousness-thoughts he felt compelled to say aloud) And rude. On one visit he tried to dissuade me from repairing a shirt, telling me I could just go to a thrift store and buy another one for 2 dollars. I've let it slide, but no longer.
I attempted to drop off a jacket for a zipper repair recently. When I discovered the front door was locked, I was reminded off their ridiculous call-for-appointment policy which is posted on the store front. Since I was already there, I called to request a quick drop-off. I was told I cannot enter because I don't have an appointment. I explained I'm out front and I'm only there to drop off a jacket. She refused to let me in, and told me how it's no different than a doctor's office. "You wouldn't just walk into a doctor's office without an appointment," she said.
Despite the many ways in which that is a poor analogy, I politely asked again if I could please just drop off the jacket, since I'd already driven down there.
Then the owner abruptly took the phone from her. He reminded me they are "appointment only and not open to the general public" because they have experienced too many incidents. I asked what type of incidents. He cited people bringing in soiled clothing. What? This is the reason for this policy?
At this point he said "I don't want you as a customer," then hung up on me.
I stood there, momentarily stunned that this had just occurred, then left.
I live in the area and have, prior to this visit, talked to others who shared the same sentiment of the owners being odd and rude. But this- being told I am not wanted as a customer and being hung up on-...
Read moreI've never reviewed any business or restaurant before, though I thought sharing my odd experience might be helpful. I called as a courtesy about whether he could perform an alteration (shorten sleeves and take in the waist) on a coat. He told me to come in any time. When I came in and explained I had called earlier, he took a look at the coat and stated, "Do you know how much this is going to cost??" I responded I did not but that I would be interested in how much. He examined it again. Exasperated, he told me at least twice, "I don't even want to do this!". I asked if he could recommend any tailor in the area. He said bluntly that he could not recommend anyone to alter my jacket. I have to say to Dad's, if I wanted to get a lecture, I'd have stayed home and called my own dad. Now, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you probably do good work, but next time, have a little tact and respect for your patrons. What an...
Read moreFirst phone call he let me know it’s appointment only. I told him what time I could show up and he continued to repeat over and over how he doesn’t want to show up if I don’t. Understandable. Show up on time, he didn’t measure anything just flipped my pants inside out and said ok next. After we finished he said it will be done by middle of next week (normal turnaround is 4hrs to a day) It was Saturday morning. Told him I needed them Tuesday. He said ok. Called me today and said they are ready and asked what time I can pick them up. I said right after 5pm. He started to moan and groan about the time and kept trying to push till Wednesday. After a bit he said “fine I’ll be here” I show up he hands me the pants then walks me back out the door. $20 per pants and this is the work?!? I could’ve done this horrible work myself. I do not recommend this place at all. Go up the street instead...
