To the other reviewers (read: VISITORS and TOURISTS of Culebra) that tank the ratings of this business because the owner requires a mask: I hope you did not treat other locals with such a sense of disrespect and lack of empathy.
If anyone cared to take the time to even get to know the LOVELY, KIND woman who runs this colmado, she requires a mask because she is a caregiver, and many visitors who come to Culebra travel and interact with other, often unmasked, individuals who may have illnesses that can harm immunocompromised individuals. Furthermore, the locals who live here full time--unlike the transient tourists who flow in and out, returning to their home countries with generally more robust infrastructure--do not have equal access to the same medical treatment, resources and interventions as the states if god forbid someone does get very sick.
So yes, if you come to Culebra (hell, ANY part of Puerto Rico) and a local tells you to put on a mask to have access to their business: do it. You are a guest here, and it's not taking away YOUR rights, but directly impacting someone's ability to keep themselves and their loved ones healthy.
PS: this was one of the more well-stocked colmados/bodegas I'd seen on the island. She has...
Read moreThey still require masks for Covid and leave the door LOCKED unless you have one on. They won’t even come tell you why they won’t let you in. Yes there are signs on the doors but every business where we live has mask signs on their doors from the 2019 Covid pandemic but the ones where we live have moved on and no longer actually require masks. Someone left the store and we tried to enter but the woman working was extremely rude and would only permit one of us to enter. Just really cross and rude, bad communication. They don’t want your money at this business especially if you aren’t a local. We love spending money at local shops and will go get our hundreds of dollars of...
Read moreI read the reviews before going to this grocery (to where I have gone during my 4 vacation visits of years past). I brought and wore my mask and used the hand sanitizer just inside the door and got the groceries (good selection, prices marked, and take credit cards) I needed today. I was treated respectfully, just like in any other store. I noticed an elderly person seated behind the counter with a walker near the younger lady (perhaps a family member) checking out my groceries. Maybe they are doing everything they can to help keep her healthy/safe? In my opinion it's their right (store owner's) to ask that customers wear a mask and sanitize their hands. I will be...
