I went to Ocean State Job Lot after a long day of cleaning my house. I wasnât dressed upâjust in my cleaning clothes with my hair undoneâbut I was excited to pick up new curtains for my first floor and grabbed a few books for my kids, since I homeschool.
I shop at this location often, sometimes even just to walk around and get a little âmom time,â so itâs usually a pleasant experience. This visit, however, was very different.
At checkout, I handed the cashier my six curtain panels, which he counted and rang up. Since I planned to iron them before hanging, I just placed them back in my cart loosely. While I was paying, a team lead named Guy hovered around me, looked into my cart, and asked if my curtains were âokayâ being tossed in that way. I told him they were fine, but instead of moving on, he took them out of my cart and recounted themâas if the cashier hadnât already done so. After carefully sorting them one by one, he even asked if there were eight, despite the transaction showing six. He was the one who miscounted, yet his behavior made me feel like I was being accused of stealing without him ever saying the words.
I have never been treated like that in this store before. It was humiliating and frustrating to be singled out when I had done nothing wrong. Iâll admit that as I walked out, I had a few choice words for him directly because I was so angry. The fact that he miscounted yet still insinuated I was trying to steal has me absolutely boiling.
I was so upset I returned everything I had purchased and decided I will not shop here again. I will also be contacting corporate and the store manager about how I was treated.
No customer should ever be made to feel like a thief when they are simply shopping and paying for...
Read moreI recently discovered the Ocean State Job Lot stores. I have been to the Shillington PA store several times, and Wilkes Barre PA. I was greatly impressed upon walking through the doors. This is my kind of store. Its highly organized, clean, and very peaceful. I enjoyed browsing every aisle. I spent the most time taking in the aisles of food. I found many interesting international products that I will surely buy again. The variety of foods is amazing. The health and beauty aids & cosmetics aisles are very nice. The clothing, gardening, domestics and housewares and more are very nice. There is something for everyone here. Be sure to start a rewards card for $10 off a $50 purchase. I didn't know what I was missing out on all the times I passed the Wilkes Barre store, and I have definitely made up for lost time this...

Management seems racially prejudice. I was walking, and holding my dog in one arm in the store when a rather chubby manager with a mustache walked up to me, telling me I couldnât hold a dog in the store.
The reason being, they canât have hair in the store due to allergies, only service dogs are allowed.
Yet I had seen a white couple WALKING their HUSKY in the store, food level mind you. When I told him this, he said âoh well get them tooâ
Yet they had walked all around the store. But I guess service dogs donât shed hair right? Especially not huskies!
He seemed eager to tell a Hispanic holding a silent short haired lapdog to get out of the store first though.
