Been coming here for years but sorry to say I'm going to switch rinks.
Even in the early 2000s it was very dingy... but then age it 24 and change more years and see what happens. It always felt gross, but now it feels even more gross every passing year.
Staff seem much more unfriendly and tired than they used to. Less catering to return customers, and more to kids that can barely skate and require those weird PVC things. Also now doing scooter and tricycle days, which says a lot and probably sucks for the floor too.
Floor is coated concrete. Old wood floors warped in the 90s so it has been concrete for a long time. Whatever. They used to redo the floors every 2 years or so but it looks like that has stopped. The floor is completely unskatable anymore, and I am an experienced skater. As I go regularly, I used to see how the floor was redone periodically. but now the floor is the same in middle of 2024 as it seemed to be in 2017 and prior. It is extremely pitted and dangerous. I don't skate outdoors much because of the risk of asphalt but now it is almost like that at Skateaway. And when I mean pitted, I MEAN PITTED. Everywhere, every location. There also some extremely slick spots where it feels like somebody spilled something and it was not cleaned up. The floor is so bad I would not be surprised if they catch a lawsuit eventually.
Place is burning hot even in the winter. No A/C required, just crack the double doors or something. I'm in decent shape but rarely make it through a session anymore due to the heat. Can't imagine what it is going to be like this summer.
To cure this I usually go get a drink, but they are so expensive (even fountain soda which isn't expensive to operate) it's cost prohibitive, and they are so tiny for gulping down in one go. They also removed the water fountain in the snack bar that had been there for decades which just seems like a big F-U... it's city water from a nasty 40 year old fountain and you don't even have that anymore.
Lastly, the audio system is 40+ years old now, you cannot hear them say anything on the PA. They make all these special announcements and things, and nobody can hear a thing. There is no treble. So it comes out sounding like an adult in Charlie Brown.
Seems like a one-and-done kiddie attraction now and don't see any of the regulars anymore... this is why. Used to see dozens of people each week, every week. Now it's mostly reckless kids that will come skate once a year, twice if lucky.
That section of 222 has also been dead for 20 years+ now since they built the bypass, which is unfortunate.
Honestly this place probably can't even be fixed, so bulldoze it. Lots of good memories here but will not return as it will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery nice Skating place. Reasonable price for entry as well as skating wheels. All sizes of wheels are available. We can also bring our own wheels and skate. Plenty of tables available to rest & watch while others are skating. They play very good music for skating and also keep some games/activities which are part of the skating at the end of the day.
Party hall is available and it is always booked, so we need to preplan well in advance if we've to celebrate any birthday parties here. At a time 3 birthday parties also can happen.
They do have arcade games as well which are coin based and most of them accepts quarter coin only. They do have coin machine which accepts $bills and gives quarters which is very convenient. Kids love these games as well along with skating. Each game will give some tickets which can redeemed for small toys at the entrance while leaving. There is a ticket machine which takes these arcade game tickets and give a paper with number of tickets on it, so we don't need to manually count the tickets.
Food court is also available. They serve free pizza & dinks in limited quantity for parties. Restroom is available separately for men & women which are decently maintained.
Plenty of parking available. When parties are happening, it will be very crowded and parking will be filled. We can park in grass as well or there is another store next to it. There also people park and walk to this skating place, so no worries at all for parking. This place is next to main road itself, so easy to find and attracts...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTerrible Skating Rink! Went here this past weekend with my family, and left after not even an hour. The skating floor, the roller skates and roller blades, and the bathroom was horrible. The skating floor looks old and has a bunch of holes and cracks. It felt very bumpy to skate on. The skate floor should definitely be replaced. The roller skates given had very sticky wheels and made it difficult to move in the skating rink. As for the roller blades, my husbandās ankles were hurt after skating with them because they were too stiff and had no flexibility for him to move around the rink properly. Now, the bathroom is what took things over the edge for us. When in the bathroom, it was extremely dirty and the stalls were ridiculously tiny. Iām disabled, so I need disability accessible bathrooms. The bathroom definitely is not disability friendly. As a disabled person, it was extremely difficult for me to do my medically necessary routine in their horribly designed and extremely small bathroom stalls. Not to mention, it looked as if the bathroom had not been cleaned in a week with filthy toilets, a grimy floor, dirty sink, and toilet paper and paper towels thrown everywhere. My family and I definitely do not recommend this place, and we will...
