Signature Kitchen & Bath Design — Local services in Cupertino

We did our kitchen remodel with Signature Kitchen and Bath in 2024. We are so grateful to Lizl Pienaar who helped every step of the way, and without whom this difficult kitchen project could not have gone so smoothly! We had two major constraints: (1) we had a tight timeline, because I was pregnant and already in my third trimester and we decided last minute we really wanted to get this done before the baby, and (2) we wanted the new kitchen to fit exactly in the footprint of the old one, because we did not want to disturb the hardwood flooring.

Lizl was essential to the success of this project every step of the way: She helped us design the new kitchen. She showed us different options for cabinetry. She called out mistakes we wouldn't have otherwise noticed (e.g. do doors and drawers have enough clearance to open). She made suggestions without being pushy. She showed us examples. We wanted a light color kitchen to feel more sunlight. Lizl cautioned us about potential staining and cleaning difficulties to help us make an informed decision, and we ultimately did go for the white color. We also wanted it to be part blue, but were not sure about it. Lizl made several mock up designs to show us what it would look like - all blue, all white, half blue, the other half blue, etc. We felt a lot more confident in that decision. We also wanted a special shade of blue, which wasn't available: Lizl helped us get a custom color ordered. She also helped us reduce the cost. We wanted the highest quality materials on everything, but the cost would have been too much. Lizl helped identify which areas were best to spend on, and which were not, helping us significantly reduce the cost. The kitchen design itself took a lot of attention to detail on Lizl's part. She took numerous measurements of our existing kitchen's footprint on the hardwood, double checked details, and made it work with the cabinetry options available. To ensure the success of this project, Lizl came over many times to meet with our contractors (pretty much "on call") whenever they had questions. She is very nice and approachable, and our contractors felt comfortable asking questions whenever they had doubts. This was essential to getting the kitchen done in time, because installation mistakes would have taken a lot longer to repair. One of the cabinet doors came in with a small paint imperfection. Lizl made sure to quickly order a new one.

We are extremely pleased with the results, the kitchen is the nicest room in our house right now. We are also glad we made this last minute effort to do the remodel before our baby's arrival. We first shopped around Home Depot / Lowes and other cabinets stores, but our impression is that every store is only selling the cabinet while the design is only to measure the dimension.

We saw the review on Yelp and it seems Signature has a very good service from reviews. As it's close to our home, we swung by and saw Kurt. He didn't ask our budget, instead he asked us what kind of cabinets we're interested in. As we didn't have the idea, he showed us different types and styles of cabinets and asked us to think about it first. With the information, we understand what we might need.

When we got back again, Kurt scheduled a meeting for us with Patty to start the topic of design. The process is just standard but Patty showed us what matters to design during our first meeting. Then we started the design phase.

There are multiple meetings to go through details on color, door types, etc. However, the design was about $1000 over our budget. Instead of asking us for lower quality product, Patty tried both financial adjustment and also design fine tune to meet our design which turned out pretty well.

During installation, I called Patty about the issues we met and she showed up in my house in 30 minutes and instructed the workers to finish the job.

Over the whole process, we only provided the overall dimension and Patty filled with full design and we only need to nod to agree. She read all appliance specs and worked out the best solution for us. For example, we have 36" cook top and 30" slide-in oven under cook top, she came up with the least expensive solution but still looks nice design.

By the way, Patty is really really knowledgeable about everything in the kitchen. Since this is our first time remodeling our kitchen, we also asked her a lot of questions on the choice of countertop, wall/floor tile, backsplash, and even paint color! Every time she was very patient and gave us a lot of valuable suggestions. She even prepared printed list of where we could shop around for kitchen remodeling stuff, which makes our life much easier! We really couldn't say more how we appreciate her generous help throughout our remodeling process...

My small kitchen was in dire need of an update! I asked a dear friend for a Kitchen Designer referral and she suggested Patty at SBKD. My friend is extremely particular and she loved her finished kitchen remodel, so I knew I would be in good hands! Meeting Patty was delightful. I was immediately impressed with her genuine and caring nature, the kind of person you feel like you’ve known for years. She also has a great sense of humor, which is essential when dealing with remodels! I showed her my layout drawings and we went from there. With her guidance we perfected the kitchen design and I was very happy. I had chosen a drawer microwave and she figured out how and where to have it installed, including extra support in the cabinet. She also suggested certain features like a pull-out spice rack and a pull-out trash container. I had always wanted those! Then she designed a display cabinet with glass doors and ambient lighting…a great idea and I love it! Patty’s knowledge of the remodel process put my mind at ease. When my cabinets were delivered to my home, she was there to make sure everything was accounted for. Even when something was missing, she immediately solved the problem. I chose one of the contractors she recommended. I told Patty that I expected the contractor’s work to be near perfect and she said I wouldn’t be disappointed. Wow, with a recommendation like that I was excited to start the project! The contractor did not disappoint. The kitchen remodel went smoothly and was completed quickly. I love my kitchen! I still pinch myself every time I walk into it! The under-cabinet lighting makes it look like a cover shoot for a magazine. Patty helped me choose the finishes and it all came together beautifully!
