I'm writing this in the parking lot of Forest Lawn because my intent was to go here, but I was hungry and desperately in need of soup, so I decided to stop by AniKri first. I've always been curious about this place. I think the lady helping me out was the owner and she was very sweet. She explained that they have a rotating menu and there's always something for vegetarians (which I am not, but I try to limit my meat intake). Because I love garlic so much I ended up getting a bowl of the garlic curry, three-piece samosas, and a mango lassi. She also gave me some cabbage dal sabzi, on the house, to try.
I love Indian food but I have never had garlic curry before, so I did not know what to expect. As soon as the curry hit my mouth, I stopped and grinned. It was so flavorful. It had literal whole garlic cloves in it, but the taste was pleasant and not offensive at all (I don't know how else to explain it). The cabbage curry was delightful. I was so happy I got to try it as I've also never had it before. It's one of those dishes I know I will be craving one of these days.
I'm pleased they have a rotating menu because that means the next time I go, they'll probably have something different for me to try. The samosas go well with the curries and the mango lassi is the perfect thing to wash the curries down with. Okay, I should stop talking and get out...
Read moreMy sister was craving Indian cuisine for her birthday so we decided to give this place a try. I'm so glad we did because we loved it and it's a bonus that it is so close to home! My husband and I are mainly vegetarians so we got the two plate vegetarian combo. One choice was a vegetarian curry and the other was a paneer butter masala. Both delicious, authentic, and had a nice kick of heat! My sister got the two plate combo with a choice of veg and non-veg. The combo plates came with a bowl of rice and a choice of either naan or roti. We were all very happy with our choices, fair price with great tasting food. Service was friendly and the kitchen looked very clean. The lady at the front helped us decide and let my sister taste the base of the curry as my sister can't handle spicy food too well. It was spicy but not to the point that turned her off. We also got some samosas and a dal vada. Also very good but I wish we remembered to get some chutney to dip it in! It would've made it even better! Will definitely be coming...
Read moreI do believe they serve one of the cleanest renditions of Indian food around, so having to drive over to Little India isn't that big of a deal.
Especially because the diversity in ethnic foods in the Cypress area is lacking.
I love that they are a fast casual takeout service.
For those inquiring, they do have seats, but more for a quick bite so don't expect a "dine in" experience.
I hope that the guests will understand they operate like a one man/woman army meaning if she's busy helping out a party, you would need to be patient and wait out the line.
The menu seems to rotate daily so it's always a surprise as to what's in store.
I love getting their two curry combo with housemade naan.
If you're feeling extra, there's also samosas, and other bite sized snacks for sale.
