Shinjuku Izaya, a Korean-Japanese restaurant with Happy Hour Specials and open late till 2am. First thing I noticed when walking in was the rustic wood flooring and furniture.
Diners have the option of seating at the bar, booths, benches or traditional floor dining areas, with padding to sit comfortly on the hard wood.
Can't have Korean w/o the banchan! The banchan were very delicious and, best of all, bottomless! My favorites of the bunch were the popcorn chicken and the salty/sweet kimchi. I availed myself of seconds & thirds. Porque no? ;p
It was cold on this Oscar Sunday, so I opted for ramen. I asked what kind of ramen is it, to which I was told Korean-style spicy ramen ($6.99). I'm down! Spicy! This bowl of fire made me sweat like I was at a sauna. Like I was having a sleepover at Richard Simmons' house ;p I found it odd that there weren't any protein in the soup, but the heat definitely warmed my body & soul. The noodles were chewy and tender. I'm glad I tried Korean-style ramen, but I prefer the fatty richness of Japanese ramen.
Service was great. I was checked upon on a regular basis with my iced green tea and banchan being refilled w/o even asking. The restaurant is dimly lit, setting the mood for an intimate meal or a fun get-together.
Shinjuku Izakaya, I enjoyed my visit to your establishment and I'm looking forward to coming back and trying out the other items on the menu. Being open till 2am and having Happy Hour Specials makes you an enticing option in the area.

Read moreThis is my second time here and the first time was slightly better than this time around. Service was slow and the food took forever to come out. Granted we had to press the help button to get any service and upon pressing the button, majority of the staff look at the service alert and seemingly ignore it, but it was also really busy with not enough staff. The music is so loud that I can't even have a conversation let alone talk to the server. Doesn't seem to be any organization with servers to certain sections of tables, so service is quite messy. Alternatively, the food does taste great when it finally comes out but the grill where they cook the meats and things all tastes the same. My soy sauce chicken had a hint of beef. I hope my next visit will be...
Read moreVery cozy place to chat it up with coworkers and friends. The service to take orders is quick with pushing the doorbell next to your table. The yakitori is delicious, and may take up to 10-20 min depending on how busy the restaurant is. The food comes out piping hot so be careful!!
I would recommend these for yakitori: -Galbi -Sojuya Spicy Pork Belly -Ika Tempura -Sojuya Spicy Chicken
You can get the regular sauce too if you're not into spicy.
I would not order the meatball yakitori again since it was not...
