I went to Van Wells today, specifically looking for a birthday gift for my daughter. It was a bistro set she saw on sale and fell for. I don't tend to think of Van Wells as a gift shop, but I do now. They have a wonderful selection of items for your yard; cute signs for anywhere; decorative pottery and beautiful large decorated tiles for your walls. Plants of all types for decoration indoors and out, furniture for the patio or a small dining area, a variety of fountains to purchase or design for your home or yard....and I'm not even inside the store yet! The young lady who assisted me with my purchase was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I thought the price for the wood bistro was a bit high...$124.99 for a three piece set and that being the sale price. But I did not research it so I honestly don't know. Great hardware store! Plumbing, electrical, tools, gardening (including plants/flowers/trees), masonry, roofing, not to mention a complete lumber yard with dimensional, sheet goods, fencing, siding, and so much more. I've been going here for 25 years, and truly enjoy it. The staff will let you wander the aisles and browse uninterrupted, yet are extremely helpful if you have a question.

The ONLY reason I rank it 4 out of 5 stars, rather than the full five, is that they are NOT open on Sundays. I understand the reason, but this point alone has caused me to drive 50 miles out of my way to their competition in order to complete a weekend project, and to be the best hardware store you must be available to your customers every day...

I am so surprised by the glowing reviews of customer service. I’ve been in twice and both times the staff were either rude to me directly or I was given the impression that my request for help were the biggest inconvenience. That’s from multiple employees. It may be because I’m from a different country and they don’t think I live or run a business in Dallas, but I do. The wisest smart comment came from an older man. He was annoyed because I was too polite!

Edit: Went there today and the 2 members of staff were awesome. One young guy and a lady at checkout. Night and day experience. I guess I’ll give it another chance. Top marks to...
