I've been shopping on and off at DVT since 2009 back when they were at Faulkner Tower and before that, had my family buy from Shaun's eBay store. Sadly, I stopped collecting toys as much as I used to around 2015 when they switched to this location, but Shaun's kindness and interactions over the years (as well as others such as Scott, Rowdy, and Dayna) really helped me get back into collecting toys, and I really have to credit this store for growing my interests as a historian!
At Dallas Vintage Toys, they care about the presentation of their items, and do not hold back in any area of the store to cater to a wide variety of interests, both new and old.
Pros:
• Clean Environment - For toy collectors and even casual purchasers of any and all goods that DVT has to offer, DVT has clean facilities, and most importantly, a dust free environment. Obviously this is important, as some other toy stores do not focus on cleaning things, and the organization of collectibles throughout the building caters as it changes. It is a relief to see big ticket items like the graded Star Wars figures not covered in dust and are routinely cleaned.
• Diverse Selection - When going to Dallas Vintage Toys, expect them to have at least a few things from any intellectual property you can think of. LEGOs, Super7, TMNT, Black Series, Transformers, etc.... They literally have it all, and things you didn't know you needed. This is also due to the nature of the employees routinely changing out old stock and moving it, to make things feel fresh, and stock changes often as things sell and are sold/traded.
• Great Pricing - DVT offers competitive and often market, or slightly above market prices for most of their items, and if you're familiar with how personable the store is, they are always accommodating to everyone's wallets, no matter the size. (understand that buying online still costs more in the end, DVT is not overcharging.)
• Friendly Staff - Having the pleasure to grow close to some of the employees, who feel more like good buds, really accommodates the idea that DVT cares about their clientele. Scott and Rowdy and always down to talk about whatever you have to ask them, and will keep up and remember your past conversations and items you're interested in. HUGE plus. Shoutout to Scott!!!
• Events - DVT has unique events, usually voice actors or actors of some kind, only other place that does this is Madness Comics in the area, but they lack the intimate environment that DVT holds.
Cons:
• Pricing (Sometimes) - Some pricing may not always be up-to-date, or reflective of the specific market or niche item you may look at, though the employees are always willing to cross-reference and work with you if you have inquiries.
• Video Game Pricing - While not reallllly a con, some of the newer switch games, dreamcasts, and other items are priced off of pricecharting (which has become vastly unreliable and unpopular with serious game collectors. Some of the prices aren't really great, but if you consider paying shipping and tax online, it's not horrible at all. Though, I did have an interaction about the dreamcast facing open and how it wares down the laser and the console should never face sun due to the notorious issues of the plastic yellowing, and it was brushed off saying it would be sold within days, but was there for a few weeks...It might just me being obsessive so no huge worry LOL.
• Negative Interactions from Employees - While nothing noteworthy has occurred for a long while regarding negative interactions, some past interactions from staff (who've since left the DVT team) were very odd to witness. I brought in two really rare old Japanese sealed transformers in box (ehobby exclusive mini transformers that only had like 100 or so copies) and this guy with glasses and a hat said, 'We sold 10 of those last week, i'll take 35 dollars for it' - And one of the other staff members was confused by this comment. This same employee made a racial comment around me as a joke towards a customer too.
Lots of love for...
Read moreI had seen this store on YouTube. I am an avid TMNT collector, and the video I discovered this store in showed lots of high-end figures that I've been looking for locally here in Ohio. On Saturday, April 5th, 2025, I picked up the phone and called them. I spoke to a very friendly girl about two figures I'd love to have: an AFA 80 graded Pterano Don, and an AFA 80 graded Ankyl Leo. I asked her if they shipped to other states. She said yes. I asked her if the owner ever came down on the prices listed. These figures were listed at $1,049 each. I informed her that if the owner would come down to $900 each, I'd buy both of them. She went and spoke to him, and he gave her a message to give to me. He said he could knock $100 off of each of them if I bought them both, making them $949 apiece. I told her to thank him for the offer, but $900 apiece is my offer. She informed the owner and came back with another message: let him think on it and call back. She said she couldn't promise they won't sell in the meantime. I informed her that I understood, and that I'd do so. I called in today, Tuesday, April 10th, and spoke with a man (I believe he said his name was Rowdy? Not sure if I misunderstood). He asked what it was regarding when I asked to speak to the owner. I informed him it was regarding the two TMNT figures that I called about days prior. I spoke to the owner and reminded him of who I was: the person who offered $900 apiece for the two AFA 80 graded Dino TMNT figures who was told to call back while the offer was considered. The owner put me on hold for a couple of minutes and never came back. Instead, the employee came back to me and said the owner, Shawn, would not be lowering the price after checking eBay prices for what's being asked for the figures. What does eBay have to do with prices that were already discussed? Regardless, I thought that meant the answer to my $900 offer was no, so I said, "Well, at least we can still do the $949 then." The employee said, "No, the price is $1,049." I said, "When I called in a few days ago, the owner said he could knock $100 off each." The employee put me on hold for a minute, came back, and said, "Shawn said that offer was only good for the day he made it. That offer is no longer on the table since we see that the same figures are being posted on eBay for more than these are priced for." So in other words, Shawn is not a man of his word. I could put my toenail clippings on eBay for $5,000. Does that mean that's what they're worth? Absolutely not. To give someone your word on a price and take it back, only to THEN say it was for that day only while never having said that to begin with? Yikes. Why was I told to call back if the price I was offered wouldn't be honored at least? I would absolutely not want to leave an impression of being a man who doesn't stand by his word, because that's no man at all. If you say you'll do something, you should stand by that -- not pretend that it had a life of one day when that was never said. Shawn missed out on a good sale, and I missed out on figures I'd have loved to put in my collection. It was a lose/lose situation. At least I know where to stay away from if and when I ever visit Dallas.
EDIT Since the owner decided to lie in his reply to this review (seeing a pattern here), the dates have been listed above from my call log. It was five days. I was TOLD to call back, and I'm not sure why since you didn't even honor the offer you made five days prior. You don't appreciate the one star? I don't appreciate being lied to. I have to suck it up. So do you. In the future, stand by your word, be a man, and don't lie in a reply to a review to make yourself look like you handled the situation differently than you actually did. It won't be with me since I'll never do business with someone who doesn't mean what they say and then lies about it later, but maybe someone else could benefit from you changing your...
Read more(DONT WASTE YOUR TIME) Greedy scalpers 🤢 Go ahead and look through these reviews and see the owners responses. Very unprofessional and rude. It only takes a couple visits to the store to feel very unwelcome and never want to come back! Also... I'll never forget the smell of that place...
Edit: (DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE) They are just straight up thieves. Do not ask them questions about why this are priced 3x retail value because if you do, they get really upset. Also their black Friday "DoorBusters" that they are advertising are false advertising Saying that a hot toys Boba Fett retails at $390 is ridiculous then putting it on "sale" for $200". I went to their socials to ask about the prices and they didn't even both responding, just blocked me right away. Go buy your toys some place else, these people don't deserve your money.
Edit 2: I wasn't aware that asking a question on ONE platform about your prices was considered "Trolling". (The comment I left)("Hot Toys Boba Fett retails for $245, not $390. Where are you getting this price") I'm disappointed on how dishonest of a company you've become. I just think you can't take criticism and that's why all your responses to bad reviews are snarky and rude. Just simply answer the question that was originally presented to you or ignore it. Don't just block them right away. immature for a business owner. Makes me wonder how many people have been block from your socials just for asking a question. You know I'm right too because the only thing you really had to say is that "people that don't use their real name or profile picture are a special breed 🤪🤪" and...
