I've lived in the neighborhood for over 6 months and somehow I missed this GEM of a church until today, 29 January 2023 -- my mother and I arrived late (shame on us) about 15 minutes into the very lively worship singing, and yet were very warmly greeted and seated, and although I recommend hearing protection (I measured a peak of 108 dB and an average of 104.4 dB through that initial worship number we walked in on, over about 5 minutes), I was pleasantly surprised by the lyric quality of the songs, the musicianship (which besides the normal rock band instrumentation included a lovely cello!), and the good singing.
The church membership itself was uncharacteristically diverse for a UPC church, and this was reflected not only in the pews but also on the platform. It felt representative of the community itself -- that's very notable.
Then, I was blown away by the powerful message, which unlike a typical UPC message, was astoundingly centered on CHRIST and HIS actual message and his call to US, bringing in Matthew 16:24, Matthew 20:26, Matthew 25:31-46, and Jesus washing his disciples' feet at Passover feast before his arrest -- while exhorting everyone, as Jesus did, to be of service to others, as part of his "Vision Series" which highlights the different parts of the church's Vision Statement, in this part, the "Make A Difference" aspect.
Then, making his message all the more powerful, he began noting some specific contributions of specific members and "what they are known for," -- not contributions so much in the monetary sense but in the full service sense, the labor of love these members have engaged in helping others and being of service to the church and its membership and to the community, "little things" and big things, as powerful examples as well as to give credit where was credit is due.
It was the little things that stood out to me: I even noted that when the pastor spoke in tongues in the close of the service, he cut his mic -- that may seem like a little thing to some, but it's in line with Paul's guidance and it's just plainly practical common sense, but it's not so common in this kind of church.
In short, I don't think I've ever gone to a UPC church and been as pleasantly surprised as I was on this occasion. These folks are the "real deal" and I'm impressed with the presentation of Christ offered up: it did justice to the...
Read moreMy wife and I started looking for a church in Jan. of 2016. We knew we wanted a place that beyond anything else made us feel welcome... Upon first glace the service was very energetic. People were excited to be there. We noticed smiles and people that were genuinely desiring to connect with God. As the Pastor got up I wondered how the next portion was going to go. I have been in all types of settings...from the very demonstrative orator to the calm and liturgical. This was a pleasant surprise. The pastor seemed like "one of us." He spoke as though he walked in our shoes. His message was not so deep that nobody could follow... yet just mature enough that any level of christian could take something valuable home. Oddly enough, after service the pastor was in the lobby area and made his way to find my wife and I as we were walking to our car. We spoke for a bit and again to my surprise we felt so comfortable getting to know him. We thanked him for his word and said we would be back. Since then we have become members. involved and committed to the work God is Doing at TLC. We wondered back then how long the "comfortable feeling" would last. You know, sometimes the "new" wears off.... Just last week my wife and I left the parking lot on a Sunday morning...having been involved in music ministry, taught Sunday School, and wrestling a sleepy infant during the message, said to one another how refreshed we felt...over a year later. We thank the Lord for leading us to TLC ... Such a...
Read more*1st Timer * I wish I could give Life Church 20 stars. I was invited here by my favorite co-worker Drew Tramonte and had no idea what to expect. I assumed it would be a normal visit. Life Church has such a warm greeting upon entering with several smiling faces. The countenance upon everyone clearly radiated love. The worship is an experience and not easily described. You'll have to attend in person to see what I mean. The worship team clearly believe what they are singing about to their core. It was sincere and a pleasant aroma in the atmosphere. God, is definitely in this place and his presence saturates the atmosphere. The members of this church treat visitors like family. Almost everyone i came across embraced me with such warmth and I felt like I had found my tribe. To avoid writing a book, I'll skip to this; What was supposed to be a visit turned into an encounter that SHIFTED & CHANGED my life. I'll never be the same after the service today. I came here hungry, expecting and with a request - God SPOKE! Life Church is the Lords pasture without a doubt. I cannot wait to join them again on Wednesday. Thank you Life Church for being a pillar and mountain of fire. Run & not walk to this church - You'll thank me later :)
Note: As a pk this by far is one of the best churches I’ve visited.
