This place has some seriously great deals on many NWOT, NWT, and used items. Many items are "overpriced" by thrift store mentality, but the prices are slowly reduced until they sell. If you learn how their discount/sale system works much of that can be offset. That said, customer service should be the determined focus of the Dayton upper management. There have been some truly wonderful floor workers and one manager of note, Lupe. Aside from those few exceptions, most of the management just do not seem at all suited to customer service. I have waited at the jewelry counter for upwards of an hour. I visit often enough that I'm known by sight by all of the managers and 90% of the staff. I have easily spent $300+ in a single visit and more than I'd care to admit in the past year. I have had other customers helped ahead of me on numerous occasions despite having stood at the counter for 20+ minutes. Many times I will be shown one or two pieces before being asked to wait as the person rings out guests in line or doing some extraneous task not immediately necessary (hanging empty hangers, straightening carts, directing customers to empty register lanes, etc). This has resulted in my spending upwards of 3 hours standing at the front counter. Not that I haven't spent as much time in there on my own, but it's incredibly frustrating when it's due to someone who seems to be ignoring me..... on purpose. On more than visit, other customers have even said, "I think he was here before me." (My thanks to those people.) Perhaps, I simply have a different view on how customer service should be implemented, but with nearly 17 years experience with the industry I've never experienced such consistently ambivalent treatment of a customer (let alone one who visits weekly and averages $50-$75 per visit). Long story, short: if you can overlook the often lackluster customer service, find the few genuinely great staff members, and learn the sale system you can find some amazing items at prices unmatched by 95% of other thrift stores I've visited (which is a lot). Management: PLEASE look into how some employees are behaving towards...
Read moreI feel like I'm somewhat of an expert on thrift store shopping, as I've given seminars to women's groups on how to shop at TS's with lots of info. I've been shopping at them since I got married in 1971 (a different town) & I've been to TS's all over the US. This has been by far 1 of my 2 favorites in the Dayton area, since I moved here in 81'. They are packed with clothing! You find many brand new clothing & a huge variety, all separated into sizes & colors. I think they are the best as far as prices, bc they have 2 color tags each day that are ½ off + on certain days in addition to that they'll have a sign saying anything of a certain color that's under $12 is only $1.00! I cannot stress how great this store is. I've never, ever in all those yrs come across anyone who works there as being mean, as 1 reviewer said. They're all very sweet! Somertimes if I can't find a particular item of clothing I can't find at another TS, I will always find it here. They don't have furniture or as many housewares as some TS's, but they do have glassware, kitchen items, books, pictures, blankets, linens, etc. They stock buyouts of very trendy clothes that are brand new w/ tags. I love going here. Even Clark Howard, the consumer guru out of Atlanta (his talk radio show) says Dayton, Oh has the "best thrift stores" in the country! He shops at these same places when he comes to Dayton. My other favor thrift store, Vally Thrift Store, is just 2-3 minutes from this 1 & is on Woodman Ave. I'll review that 1 too, my...
Read moreBe careful as you're being checked out, it was half price day, one of my items a cheap little tote regular $5.00 I would get for $2.50 so it was worth $2.50, cashier picked up tote to ring up, but she turned where I couldn't see what she was doing, what she was trying to unsuccessfully hide, was she added two zeros to that $5.00 making the tote 50.00 dollars!! and charged my credit card $25 instead of $2.50, the blatant attempt at stealing $25 dollars from me was real! even more devastating the manager came over to refund my $25 and said no cashier didn't do it, she didn't do that! and I seen her do it, I get there's an English barrier there but they knew exactly what they were doing, and the manager she knew what she did, but she covered for her in fact it was a pretty busy day a whole lot of people witness this incident, and it was quite devastating and heartbreaking because all the years in business I have went there shopped, and donated! that this happened to me I hesitated to post this but I do feel people have a right to know when the business is thiefs, I use plural for thiefs instead singular, the manager knew it was true, I held up that cheap little tote, and told her, lady Michael kors wouldn't charge 50 bucks for this tote! It has a Walmart sticker! I hated writing this, but customers have an absolute right to know, be wary when you are...
