The Hearth Community Place Food Pantry — Local services in Dayton

Wonderful people who conduct this food pantry! It's indoor however, the line outside is lengthy, which is only a reflection of how bad the food situation is, due to the current administration in DC.

If you've never been, there is a process of signing up, then show up, stand in line, take a number, then come inside and sit at the chairs. Give some info to the ladies at the table and they will tell you to get in line again. You will be issued a grocery cart and go "shopping" down the aisles. Volunteers will be standing at each food location to let you know what and the quantities you may take.

I believe all foods are donated from Kroger, Meijer and Walmart. Many perishables such as breads, buns, baked goods, etc. are dated by the "sell by" which could be the date you are there, some of which you can freeze to sustain them longer. There are box packaged foods and canned foods that one needs to look at the dates to see how soon you should use them. They also sometimes have produce such as bags of potatoes, onions, oranges. Sometimes they have milk and almost always have some sort of meat products. Dated products are NOT the fault of the pantry since all items are donated.

We love this church, pastor, members, people who visit, and all the volunteers , my baby was asleep in my arms and they helped me get throw really fast before my arms feel off. Over and beyond they truly care for us. They are very kind and we get a shopping cart full of food ,fresh vegetables , fruit etc. Sometimes we get gifts like customers for Halloween or other misc surprises. My daughter got an electric riding horse a couple years back!

They are awesome we love them. Plus they do prayer requests.
