Disappointing and Dismissive Experience at L’Aaberge Spa! I visited L’Aaberge Spa in Del Mar expecting a rejuvenating Holistic Deep Tissue massage, as advertised. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The massage, described as a “powerful, slow, deep pressure technique,” was in stark contrast to what I received – a massage that felt more akin to a soft lymphatic/Swedish style.
My dissatisfaction became more pronounced at checkout. When asked about my experience, I honestly shared that while my sister enjoyed her session, mine did not live up to the ‘deep tissue’ promise, feeling more like a ‘C minus’ experience. The response to my feedback was dismissive, with the staff remarking, “we’ve never heard that before.” This left me questioning the purpose of asking for feedback if only affirmative responses are welcomed.
Additionally, while the spa did remove the mandatory gratuity from my $300+ bill for the 80-minute service, no further action was taken to address my dissatisfaction, indicating a lack of proactive customer service. This approach, coupled with a seemingly defensive stance towards feedback, points to a need for improved service quality and customer relations.
My overall experience was underwhelming, especially when considering previous spa experiences,. The focus of L’Aaberge Spa seems to be more on diversity in hiring rather than skill and talent, which, in my case, resulted in a subpar service.
In conclusion, I am unable to recommend L’Aaberge Spa. A luxury spa should not only deliver on its promises but also value and appropriately respond to customer feedback. Unfortunately, my experience was neither satisfying nor handled with the expected level of...
Read moreThis spa was good. The place was very clean and smelled so nice. They only have a sauna no other amenities which was a disappointment. The showers and locker room are clean and well decorated. The spa itself is small. The pool and jacuzzi are not located near by for the spa, it’s for all hotel guests.
The relaxing area outdoor space was wonderful and cozy by the fireplace. The indoor space was not as comfortable. They had tea and a few snacks.
Dee the front desk was so nice and welcoming.
The facial itself was mediocre, that is why I’m rating this 3 stars. Not worth the price.
The real bummer was when the three of us ladies tried to go over to the pool for lunch they stopped us to give back the robes and couldn’t walk over in them. Not sure why. Then when we came back 2 hours later the other spa attendant seemed confused on why we needed to use the showers and asked us not to use robes or get a locker. Even though our stuff was already stored in the locker room. She made us feel like we were a problem and we had paid for services and just coming back to finish our spa day. Not sure what she expected us to do when we had to walk to the pool and they encouraged us to use it in the first place.
The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The surrounding area is walkable and Del Mar was gorgeous.
If you are going to spend money on a massage go to Torrey Pines at the Lodge or Rancho Valencia!

Read moreI’ve been to a lot of spas and had a lot of services, but this might be THE best one yet. I requested the Pacifica package - body scrub and massage - and am so pleased that I’m writing this review from the spa’s patio. The spa is a total experience - from the minute you walk in the door, you’re greeted with an aroma that you immediately want to replicate at home. The ladies locker room has everything you could possibly need (hair, hygiene, etc), showers and a sauna. The massage room I was in had a shower for in between the scrub and massage - making everything fluid and effortless. Kelly, my masseuse, listened to my needs and focused heavily on my shoulder/back areas - relieving so much tightness. Surprisingly, the nearly 2 hour service (50 min each) somehow actually felt longer - maybe it was the attention to detail!! Very...
