Admittedly this was our first time visiting, and everyone can have an off night, but our experience was really poor. We order two pizzas. A plain cheese and a pepperoni, a spaghetti with meat sauce and a salad to take away.
The pizzas were incredibly thin, dry and hard, with no chew whatsoever. If there had been any yeast action in that dough, it had died the week before. With no rise whatsoever in the crust, it felt like we were eating melted cheese on top of a cracker. We have two teenage boys who are pizza fanatics - they ate less than half of a pizza between them.
The pasta was basic boiled spaghetti with a sauce poured over the top, not mixed in with the spaghetti, so by the time we got home the pasta was cold and dried out, and the sauce congealed on top. The sauce appeared to be nothing more than a decent bottled marinara with a cooked meatball crushed into it.
The salad was fine.
The prices were also way, way over the top given what we were served. I get that rents are high in Del Mar, but $30+ for a single standard size pizza, especially like the ones we were served,...
Read moreI’m truly sad to write this because this used to be one of our favorite pizza places—the food and atmosphere were always great. But our experience last night was beyond horrible.
Since outdoor tables were full, we sat inside for the first time. Out of nowhere, a HUGE COCKROACH appeared and started crawling around the floor. Four or five staff members behind the counter saw it, yet no one rushed to catch it. After several disturbing minutes, the cockroach climbed up onto the counter where people eat their food.
We pointed it out, and finally one of the kitchen staff caught it—with the same towel they use to wipe tables. But here’s the SHOCKING PART: the counter where the cockroach had been NEVER cleaned or sanitized after it. Not a spray, not a wipe—nothing!!!!! The thought of people sitting down to eat at that same counter right after is sickening. If that’s how they handle what customers see, I can’t imagine what happens in the kitchen.
Totally disgusting. The image is stuck in my head, and sadly, we’ll never be...
Read moreA nice little pizza place in Del Mar! They serve a thinner crust pizza but it's not cracker crust. I thought it was very delicious and was a great place to hang out and chat with some friends after a good surfing session. Due to the thinner crust you don't get a really good feel for the dough as far as taste, and because of the build of the pizza there wasn't a lot of taste to the sauce either. But once that and the rest of the ingredients came together, it was a good piece of pizza. I also enjoyed the garlic cheese bread and the marinara sauce was pretty good with that. I thought the service was really good and the atmosphere was really cool as well. I love the photographs from local photographers on the walls. And being a surfer seeing that large surfboard was pretty cool too. All in all it was a good piece of pizza and a great place...
