Back in December, the hard drive in my main laptop ceased booting, and my wife took the laptop to Delta to see if they could recover the data from the drive. They said they would call us in a few days once they ran some tests to see what went on with the drive.

Those days passed with no communication. I had to call and reach out to get any communication.

When we finally reconnected, the gentleman there told me I was a victim of a drive encryption attack (i.e. hackers had encrypted my drive, demanding money in exchange for the keys) and that my only option was to wipe my drive.

I went in and picked up my laptop, unsatisfied with their answer. They ended up giving me a $30 refund on the cost of their diagnostic testing because of their lack of communication.

I ended up taking the drive to a data recovery place, and they confirmed what I originally thought had happened, the boot sector had been corrupted. It took a few days and a bit of cash, but they recovered all of our data.

The encryption that had supposedly occurred? All in the heads of the incompetent techs at Delta.

I moved an hour away and still drive to Doraville to purchase equipment and procur service, maintenance and/or problem solving, on my computer. Knowing how technologically challenged I am they took the time to connect my new,second monitor to give me a training of how to use it most efficiently (just as they have with the other 10 items I have purchased from them over the years). I misinformed Jalal about my connections and came home with the wrong cable, MY FAULT NOT HIS. I took the trip again the very next day because I knew he would make it right and he did that and more. There are plenty of computer stores near me but I know I will get great equipment, excellent computer service when I need it, and professional, friendly, and patient attention; I wouldn't take a chance with anyone else, been there done that.
