First, let me preface this review with stating that this is the first time that I have written a Google review. However, based upon the HORRIBLE experience I have had at Planet Fitness, I felt compelled to write a review. Although I am sure many have enjoyed their membership based upon the price and location, all should think long and hard about this gym.
Although not a term or condition of my membership agreement, several employees have recently requested that I take a photograph upon entering the facility. Because this is not a part of our contract and I do not wish to take the photograph, I refused. However, when entering the facility today, LINDA again demanded that I take a photograph, and again, I declined. However, I indicated that, rather than taking the photograph, I would be willing to provide her with my drivers license or other identification when entering the facility. After LINDA declined, I requested that she point to the provision in the contract requiring that I take the photograph. After attempting to show me a new contract that I had not executed, I requested that they provide me with a copy of my contract. At that point, LINDA said that she could not provide me with the contract "because their system was down" and that I could work out today.
Half-way through my workout LINDA then approached me in the middle of the gym in front of several members and stated that she was cancelling my membership. At that time, she provided me with a copy of my contract and pointed to a provision which did not state that I was obligated to take a picture, but rather, that PF could orally amend our written contract at any time. Because I am an attorney, I explained that written contracts could not be amended orally, and requested the contact information for the manager, so that I could further discuss the issue. At that point, LINDA indicated, at the amusement of another employee, that she was the manager. In response, I requested the information for the regional manager, and LINDA indicated there was not regional manager. Ok, so then I requested the contact information for the owner, and in response, LINDA indicated that the only information she could provide about the owner was that his name was "SAL." At that time, I then inquired if she were going to cancel my membership and provide me with the documentation. Immediately, LINDA began to fill out some paperwork, and she attempted to sign the document on my behalf, indicating that I was the party cancelling the contract. No doubt, so the club could attempt to charge me a cancellation fee.
Finally, after I sent an email to a generic "info" email address, MIKE, the purported regional manager called me to discuss the incident. After I explained what had occurred, MIKE simply agreed the provision was not in the contract that it was a new policy they wanted to implement in order to curb membership sharing. Additionally, MIKE also stated that, although LINDA could have accommodated my request with regard to identification and that LINDA should have handled the situation better (I have declined to include how rude and disrespectfully LINDA was throughout our interaction), he would not take any action. Rather, MIKE said he would utilize the incident as a training tool. When I asked how MIKE felt about the fact that LINDA lied to me about the existence of a manager and her lying about having the name or contact information for the owner, MIKE simply indicated that he could have trained the "kids" better. Then, MIKE had the absolute audacity to state that he stood by the cancellation and that he hoped I would come back in a few months to reinstate my membership. ...
Read moreThis has been the absolute most positively worst experience I've ever had with a business. This place is the saddest facility I've ever seen when it comes to a place that's design is supposed to inspire. The staff are EXTREMELY rude and misleading. Everything in life when you sign the contract here make sure you read that fine print because I unfortunately have the experience of someone signing me up. Though I did it online I was in the actual Planet Fitness location and obviously wasn't given the proper notification that I could never cancel and even if I did cancel I couldn't do it until the time was up... although they "accidentally" have overcharged me a few times and that cause my bank account to be overdrafted, they didn't feel it was the fall of Planet Fitness even though they make several unauthorized charges to my account. I just realized that after my year subscription was up in February.... I wasn't allowed to cancel and I was charged renewal fees to do another year subscription which has caused me to have to pay $60 this April. (Since they hide this fee from you in their little spill. For some reason they think I'm going to do this again for another year where I've already paid them 60 and we're going to just keep letting them take the money out of the account. My husband has had his account for 7 years with Bank of America and for the first time we are going to have to cancel our debit card. I feel really sad that these people make their money off of scamming folks because they truly get their profit from all the hidden fees that they don't tell anyone about and all the hidden fees that they are allowed to scam out of your bank account. Please please please take my advice and shop around and look at other gyms because you do not want to go to this place it will cost you hundreds of dollars in the long run and a very little...
Read moreI've been a black card member for a few years, but this was my first trip to this location. I walked in and scanned in with no issue. I wanted to tan, and at my home club there's a computer kiosk where I can scan my card and see what time slots are available for beds and booths. I didn't see that here, so I asked the employee at the desk. She said there's no kiosk, and asked me how much time I wanted and entered it into a system on the wall. When I went to the room she indicated, I realized it was a booth not a bed. So I went back out and asked for a bed. She said there's only one and it was in use so I said I'd wait and took a seat. After a few minutes I saw someone leave the tanning area, so I got up to go back to the counter. There was another member there who was helped by a different employee who set the other member up in the bed before I could speak up. I said oh well, I'll just wait again. The second employee asked if I wanted to use the booth instead, but I never use those so I don't know how much time I need and he didn't know what the max time is in the standing booth so I couldn't even make a good guess. So I just went in for a few minutes and hoped it would be fine. Then the music in the booth didn't even work.
I'm really surprised there's not a system to keep track of who is next to use the tanning bed and booths, since there's only three tanning rooms all together. My home club has had the kiosk system for a few years now and it works great. This gym needs a better system, even if it's just like a physical "next in line" card for the person waiting to hold so the employees can see that it's reserved and not send someone in out of order. Also staff needs training if they don't know how many minutes each bed or both runs.
Three stars because everything was clean and the staff at least...
