Spanglers Ace Hardware — Local services in Dover Township

After 15 years of shopping for my rental property in Dover ,PA Spanglers Ace Hardware has lost my business forever. This morning I was called about a 4ton delivery of stone that was expected for delivery. After confirming I was ready for it the guy on the phone said he'd see me in a little bit. I thought this was the appropriate time to explain where he would need to go to drop off the stone. He had my address but it was coming to the rear yard so I began explaining in simple terms that at 5th st (The street before 6th or my st) there would be 4 rowhomes on the corner on the left. I was telling him behind the rowhomes was my alley/easement that would be his turn. He rudly refused to let me explain that simple instruction. Instead he insisted that because he had never been in my area he would have to get there before taking the directions or "figuring it out" what! Who can't look for a giant landmark and make one turn! I said his GPS would have him on that road anyway just look for the rowhomes on the left. He then snaps at me that he still uses mapquest! Really in 2018 no GPS for a delivery truck. He was so rude I just said whatever call me after you wonder around the neighborhood for a while. After I had a minute I decided to cancel for the rude very strange conversation. Upon calling back to report this rude employee I was speaking with a women when 5 minutes in to the call a 3rd voice comes on the phone and it was the same guy but now he was listening in on my call. I asked his name and he proudly proclaims I'm Mr. Spangler!!! Wow I was floored the owner could be that inept at customer service and would loose a long standing customer over what? Me trying to save him fuel and time by giving him a 5 second final instruction? Long and short of it I called York Building Supply and am getting the same order with better stone and they were 75 dollars cheaper. Thanks Mr. Spangler for saving me money now and in the future since you have given me a reason to just head to Lowe's 15 minutes up the road. By the way the last thing I was asked by the new driver at York Building Supply was "if I had any final instructions for the drop off" he took my simple directions with out any...

Maybe don't be a woman and try to get a spare key cut here? I went in to get a key cut for my vehicle. I went understanding that my key may or may not be a chip key. I never stated that I wanted another chip key. I did specify that I did just want it to open the doors. As in- if I lock my chip key in the vehicle, I'd like to be able to unlock the doors with the spare. Well- there was a huge to do. Is this a chip key...I told the guy- it doesn't really matter, I just need it to open the doors. He wasted about 20 minutes trying to determine if it was a chip key or not, complained the entire time about how hard this key would be to cut, got two managers involved and accused me of lying to him about it not being a chip key. I was told that it wasn't, and it's a new vehicle to me. I don't know how to tell. It was roasting hot and humid in there- and someone had to bring to attention the fact that I was sweating. Yes- I sweat when its 87 degrees in a store, and humid, and everyone is making me quite angry. They told me several times that they don't sell chip keys there...while- I never requested a chip key- and there's an entire cage full of cutable chip keys behind this guy. Oh- I forgot the references to the key as being a female- and "Maybe she will play nice" ...What?!?? I can honestly say...wild horses will not drag me back to this place. I felt like I was being talked down to and made to feel like a major inconvenience to a pack of men who didn't know what the hell...

I have been going to Ace hardware in Dover Pa. for 10 years. I spend around 600.00 a year on my lawn and maintenance to my house. I bought a peice of hand equipment and it didn’t work and literally fell apart. I ask if I could bring it back and they said yes. When I took it back was questioned if I bought it there, I replied yes. On the handle it has their name on it. You could also tell that it had hardly been used. I couldn’t use it , it fell apart. Well they made me feel like I was lieing and said we don’t carry that, I said I bought it here, I buy all my tools here. Well they just started to walk away like I was leing or trying to get one over on them. I could tell that they could care less that they sold me something that fell apart and didn’t work. On top of that they were talking to me as if because I was a girl I didn’t know what I was talking about. So I won’t shop there again. I will spend my money at a place that will treat me fairly and respectfully. Hopefully people will see what’s happening there and save themselves some...
