As a Yogi I am incredibly disappointed in this place, its practices and the instructors, specifically the older lady with the blond pixie cut, unfortunately i dont remember her name but it is not the first unpleasant experience with her. I booked a “60 min hot yoga class” on classpass on September 29 and had no idea of it being Bikram the first time i had booked. In case you are not versed in the yoga world Bikram was a man who created the sequence and has multiple lawsuits against him for harrassing and molesting woman and abusing his power and had been since banned from the USA and most studios stopped practicing this or at least using his name because it the unethical behavior he stands for. This studio and especially this instructor, Anne? uses the name freely in the studio but is shameful to use it on advertising? i wonder why. I came to another class today only because it was the only available hot yoga class at that time on classpass and i thought id give it ONE more chance. it happened to be the same lady again. the entire time She would correct every single move on me down to the way my hand was facing even clearly seeing that I am an experienced yogi as I was one of the few in this class doing full expressions of each pose, The point is she could see i’m not a beginner, but certain poses i just prefer certain positions because it’s what’s comfortable for me and that should be fine regardless. It got to the point where I had to kindly ask her to “please stop correcting me i am doing the poses the way I feel comfortable”. She quickly got an attitude repeatedly saying back “this is bikram and that not how it is in bikram, you follow instruction in bikram, your doing it wrong. you need to listen to what i’m saying” while i am clearly just there to practice yoga and meditate through it and RELAX after work. I told her “i signed up for a hot yoga class, I understood but please i don’t want to be corrected anymore”. she then replied with more attitude “do whatever you want i don’t care”… It wasn’t even 30 min through the 90 min yoga class which was advertised as a 60 min class. I immediately packed my stuff up and LEFT which i have never done in my 3 years of practice. I couldn’t even sit through that whole class. I told her when i left I come to yoga to feel relaxed not to feel stressed and she was making the whole practice stressful. Unethical behavior and practice at this studio that does not represent the values of yoga. would not recommend to anyone beginning or...
Read moreI’ve done hot yoga before, but participating in the 90 minute hot yoga class offered here was a whole different experience, and let me tell you it is not for the faint of heart or even mid level bravery- this is hard core.
It was a really welcoming environment from right when I walked in. Lynn, our class instructor, showed me to the cubbies and explained everything after I got checked in. She was so kind to give me a heads up about the class format which was super nice to know. In the 90 minute class there’s no music and it’s all spoken instruction and timing through 26 movements (I think that was the number). It was a much different setup then any other yoga class I’ve been in so it was really nice to know that beforehand.
The way Lynn instructed was very matter of fact- she knew the names of all the participants well, even myself as a first timer. Some may have taken it a wrong way when she calls your name to correct your form, but once you get used to it it was actually really nice. She paid close attention to everyone in the room even though it was full, to make sure everyone was getting the most out of it.
I really appreciated the corrections as I still don’t know a lot of the verbiage with yoga flow so I got lost at different points but Lynn always patiently pointed me to the correct direction. My class members were so supportive and even though 90 minutes in a hot room was so hard, it felt amazing after.
They do have showers there as well so you can clean off right away after class. They offer the normal 60 minute hot yoga, hot pilates classes, and a few other things. It seems like a great community here that I’ll definitely try to come back to even though I don’t live in the...
Read moreOk, lets start at the standard stuff...clean, friendly and efficient staff, nice looking entrance way in a good part of town, bathrooms are large WITH clothes hangers and enough bathrooms and showers....
Studio very well done, keeps the heat and no sticky rug (Yea! Wood/Composite.) Instructor took the Yoga seriously but had a friendly, benefits based dialogue that fit nicely in the well heated and attended room.
First Rate Bikram Yoga Studio and First Rate Instructor.
Now, in something I hope that catches on with all Bikram Yoga Studios - A complete massage offering. Again, attention to details in the massage room - well decorated, clean (including the sheets and towels) and the towels used to take the oil off and place under the neck were all heated to a perfect temperature.
Best for last, the massage therapist that provided my massage was Liliana. It was a 90 minute massage and she worked a magical body work into that 90 minutes. She knows what she is doing in therapeutic deep muscle massage. If you want to take your shoulders out of your ears, relax the muscles between your shoulders and feel your toes move separately again make a appointment with Liliana. Thanks Liliana and thanks BY...
