Vaguely Reminiscent — Local services in Durham

The shop is very tiny and tough to get through if there are several people in the store but the items in the shop are very much like what you would find in a Light Years or Urban Outfitters. There are lots of fun humor gifts and genre items that are overpriced but cool nonetheless. My big issue with the store was that there were three women working in there and they all followed you around like you were a common thief. If you picked anything up to buy, one of them was right there to take it to the register to "hold" for you. They would act like they were fixing something on the shelf while watching you. Now, being in a college town, I'm sure they do get quite a few shoplifters, but they don't need to treat every customer like they are going to steal. One of my favorite gift stores in Durham. Gotta call them out right off the top for having the best card selection around! So many great cards that you just don't see other places, and covering a variety of occasions. Other than that they've got great jewelry, socks, clocks, toys, games, knicknacks and doodads. The clothing selection skews a little bit 'old' for me, but it's just right for some. Tiny store so limited stock, but they utilize every bit of space and have found some great items. Bought my sister in law a "famous first lines of literature" mug which she loves, and recently bought my mother a gorgeous bracelet. Had a horrible experience in this store. Below is the email I sent them afterwards:

To the woman who questioned me for trying on a size that you felt was too small for me… out loud… in the middle of your store… “these are smalls - were you trying on SMALLS…??”

That sucked. Please don’t ever do that to anyone ever again. Myself and my family have been shopping at your store for as long as I can remember, and I’m 34. I will never be coming in again. Just assume all people understand what fits well on their bodies and, unless they ask you to look at them and eyeball a size, please PLEASE don’t offer any options on the matter.
