It was the worst possible scenario. My main computer finally bit the dust and refused to boot. Fortunately I had a backup system. Unfortunately, my backup machine had died on the shelf. It too failed to boot.
To add icing to the cake, my machines were Linux boxes running in console mode with a talking screen reader program called Speakup. Based on past experience, I expected a hard slog to find a computer repair shop that knew anything about Linux, let alone setting up a Linux system that would come up talking with a screen reader.
I was delighted to find A. P. Computer Solutions in East Haven, CT. They are very computer savvy, they repaired both machines in days, in one case replacing the chassis and motherboard but keeping the hard disk. In the other case they replaced the hard disk and installed a talking Linux system.
