Love this place. The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They always have their tanks in pristine condition. They have fair prices and have always taken care of us. Just pre-ordered seahorses from Jason and when Jason and the other worker (I forgot his name) went to go pick them up, they did not appear healthy and were not eating. Jason and his partner opted to get the more expensive ones for me (that were healthy and eating) for the same price as the ones I ordered. They are doing great and I'm very appreciative that they did this for me.
Side note: these seahorses are the first fish I have ever pre-ordered (purchased without seeing). I expressed to Jason my concerns and he assured me everything would be fine. When I went to pick up my new seahorses that Jason ordered, I was a little bit nervous when he said the ones I ordered were not healthy. He assured me they took the time to check out all of the seahorses and the ones he got for me were healthy and eating frozen foods (if you know anything about seahorses, making sure they're eating frozen food is the most important thing). I was a little bit nervous but very pleased that he took the time to really inspect them for me and made sure he got me healthy ones. To my surprise, they got me more expensive seahorses, but still gave me the cheaper price. (I got them for $60 each. I have called every fish store in Southern California and there is only one other store that can get seahorses right now and they are $120 each). 3 hours after putting them in my tank they were eating. Today is day 3 and they are active, eating constantly, and very healthy little guys. I am very pleased with Jason and his partner (the gentlemen with arm tattoos). They also made sure to get the color I wanted. This place cares about their customers and the fish well-being; they are NOT trying to make a sale like some places, they really care about their...
Read moreI visited Bob's last week when I was nearby seeing a friend. I had told my friend that I was disappointed with the quality of the Aquarium stores near me in West LA and he reccomended that I stop in here on my way home.
I couldn't have made a better decision to do so. This store blows every other Aquarium store I've been to out of the water. They have a large variety of products for every interest in the hobby from Freshwater and Salt Water fish to plants and shrimp. And all of their products are of an extremely high quality. The plants they sell are even grown by them right in the store!
In addition to their amazing product line, the people that work there are so kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Without me even needing to ask, I was offered all kinds of information on the plants I had just purchased, something that almost caught me off guard because I had never experienced it at any other store where the employees generally don't know anything and are just hoping to make a sale. While I was there, I also overheard one of the employees instructing another customer on how to fix some ammonia issues they were having in their tank.
I could not reccomend this store anymore and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. I was completely blown away. I will definitely make the 30 minute drive again if I need anything else. Trust the people at Bob's!
One last note: The plants I bought from Bob's, less than a week ago have already shown incredible signs of growth. One of the floating plants I purchased has grown 3in of roots in as many days. Never seen results like that...
Read moreMy kids and I recently visited Bob's Tropical Fish (also known as Oh My Betta) in search of our new betta. We visited a few local stores to move away from the large retailers, (we don't shop at large retailers anymore for pets, after some hard-learned lessons...) we couldn't find a place that aligned with our values and what we were looking for. Although Bob's Tropical Fish is not a local store for us, we decided to give it a try and find a healthy fish. When we walked into the store, we were so happy about store's well setup and the optimal condition of the animals. It was evident that the shop owner has a genuine dedication to the well-being of the fish.
When we asked questions, they provided us with insights into maintenance expectations and the specific conditions required for different fish species. This helped us to make an informed decision about whether we were equipped to properly care for an animal, or if we had the right set up before taking the fish home.
I also greatly appreciate that they are transparent about the sourcing of the fish and their dedication to providing animals that break free from the cycle of being raised under poor inbreeding conditions on large farms. If concerns about the sourcing and quality are important to you, I highly recommend visiting Bob's Tropical Fish. By doing so, you can save time and energy by avoiding larger retailers or shops that prioritize transactions over the well-being of the animals. Our new betta has happily joined our family, and we look forward to visiting the store again...
