The actual place where the cats are kept is very nice, they have adequate room and supplies for the cats as well as separate rooms for quieter kitties and a quarantine area for new arrivals. The reason I'm rating them so low is this: they are very disorganized and deceptive when it comes to adopting a cat. Myself, my fiancée and our roommate went on a Sunday to look at cats and hopefully find one to add to our family. We visited with all the cats they had and then filled out an application. As we were completing it, we were speaking to the ladies working there and we mentioned that we had previously had a cat that had FeLV, or feline leukemia. We explained that it had been quite some time, over 2 years, since she had passed, and that neither of our two current cats had it and had been tested multiple times to make sure. I noticed a shift of their attitude towards us after that. We were told to provide references and that they would need to speak with our landlord OR see a copy of our lease to make sure we were allowed to have cats. We paid the $20.00 application fee and left with a promise that they would call us as soon as they started the process. They are closed Monday and Tuesday, so we expected a call on Wednesday. They finally called us on Thursday, and I gave them our landlord's information. After speaking to our landlord, they called us back and said that unfortunately we had a two cat limit and weren't allowed to have another one, so they were going to have to take our hold on the cat off. I was told if we worked it out with the landlord, to call them back and they would continue with the application, although they couldn't promise that the cat we chose would still be available. My fiancée spoke to our landlord and it turns out that there was a miscommunication between her and the lady that manages our actual apartment complex. We received a voicemail from our actual complex manager that said that we were allowed to have three and that the other landlords information was simply mistaken. We called the Kitty Cottage back and here is where the real problem started. My fiancée was treated very rudely and disrespectfully. She was accused of lying to them and the woman on the phone said that it was "suspicious that they just told us that we weren't going to be able to get the cat and now suddenly there was a miscommunication with our landlord," basically implying that we were lying to them. She then told my fiance that "when she was in college she would have lied to her landlord about the amount of cats that she had and even forged her lease to show to a shelter so that they would give her a cat." This was completely unprofessional and totally uncalled for, as we were just trying to find a cat to love and give a good home to. The people at the Kitty Cottage constantly changed their requirements, and it was always a case of we were talking to somebody else and they had bad information and that was the reason why things were changing. We feel that we were discriminated against because we had previously had a sick cat and that we were manipulated and outright lied to by different members of their staff, none of whom were willing to take responsibility for actually making decisions. I spoke to the woman who was speaking to my fiancée and told her that we just wanted our money back at this point and we would pursue adoption with another shelter. She said that they would return our application fee, less the credit card transaction fees, and then the bookkeeper would be in on Monday. At this point that was 3 days ago (it is now Wednesday,) and I have yet to hear from them about my refund. I feel like if you don't meet their image of someone they want to let take a cat home they will do anything and everything to prevent you from getting one. Extremely unprofessional, irresponsible and manipulative staff here have totally turned me and others off of ever trying to adopt...
Read moreThey are doing adoption all wrong and wasted 3 weeks of my life. I take care of my cats like i do my child. However, the kitty that i had (for only a yr) was scheduled for his yearly check up - (he came w all shots and everything so there was no need prior) but he unfortunately passed before that appointment. He had a bladder obstruction which after spend $4000 trying to save him put him into heart failure.
In addition i RESCUED another cat in late July - who is awaiting his pet insurance to kick in for a checkup. But because we found out after we submitted the application that we were lied to about vet records (from previous owner - a vet tech) i was denied.
My 2yr ESA old got sick, bladder obstruction which led to heart failure and he passed. I paid 4k trying to save his life yet i ignore my cats medical need?
Then, when i expressed the fact that i was hurt that i wasn't good enough i was met with, "that's not what we're saying". Um, yes that's exactly what you are saying. When you have someone in tears because they want an animal so bad and you deny them that's EXACTLY what you're saying. Funny thing is that when i searched for a rescue for the abandoned cat that i took on in i was told that they're all full. Make it make sense. Possibility that they are a scamming you for the application fee?
Since posting this on social media, i have over 60k followers on a big platform, quite a few people have shared the same experience. Maybe the "board" should look at peoples characters and not what they look like on paper. Especially your paperwork.
Being told that i didn't look good on paper due to events out of my control was my "im done" point. I already have a new 9 week old kitty lined up, from a friend, so clearly someone that is in my life heavily thinks im fit. I was told there's noone better and she wouldn't want anyone else to take him. I mean, that's character not...
Read moreFor nearly 12 years, our family has adopted 5 different cats from Kitty Cottage. In 2006, we adopted Tabby, Pasha and Julie and they were 3 unique and special cats for us for a very long time.
Last month, my Mother and I went to Kitty Cottage to donate some items. While we were there, we decided to browse through the different rooms that Kitty Cottage has to interact with the cats. This place is totally different compared to your typical animal shelter because the cats have full access throughout the room and are not caged at all. The first room we went into had 2 cats that we ended up falling in love with in 6 month old Domino and 5 month old Troy.
We went there not looking to adopt but when we saw how sweet they are and how well they got along together, they melted our hearts and had to adopt them.
The employees and volunteers have strong knowledge of all the cats and provided us with a great experience while we were there. Like us humans, cats have an origin story of their own as well and Kitty Cottage does an amazing job to give you every piece of information possible on each cat that is under their roof.
Also, we have had other family members adopt their cats from Kitty Cottage and they are absolutely in love with their cats and with the service they have received from Kitty Cottage.
With adopting 5 different cats for almost 12 years, we could not be happier with our furry, four legged friends. If you are looking to add some joy and happiness into your life, adopting your cat from Kitty Cottage is a great place to go to not only find you joy, but but for a cat as well in giving he or she a...
