Peninsula Indoor BMX — Local services in East Port Orchard

While the staff was mostly friendly and informative, our trial at practice night on 1/11/23 was a disastrous experience for my 3 young kids. My twin 6-year-olds and 4-year-old started on balance bikes when they were 18 months old and were riding pedal bikes well before they were 3. They've ridden trails and other outdoor bmx tracks. They build ramps and jumps in our yard every opportunity they get, so they are not afraid of falling or crashing. What they were wholly unprepared for was the entirely discouraging environment of intimidation at PIBMX. There was nothing like a new rider time when they could try riding from the start, without the gates, to familiarize themselves with the track. The only two options for them to ride was the balance bike open ride before practice rides started, or to line up on the gunshot-like sounding gate with all the other riders, regardless of age and skill level, and take off when the gate dropped. All 3 kids tried to line up, but were too scared to go by the fact that on either side of them were riders ranging in age from roughly twice their age to 6 times their age. I understand logistically that new riders going with experienced riders means less likelihood of pileups, crashes and injuries. However, it doesn't do good things for morale when a kid is trying something new and is already overwhelmed by all the new sights and (very loud) sounds, then gets left in the dust. I am so sad and angry that my kids started the evening brimming with happiness and excitement, only to end it feeling overwhelmed and demoralized. If the goal at PIBMX is to attract already experienced riders who are likely to bring in more awards and recognition, I can't speak to their success in that regard. But, if their goal is to bring young riders into the fold and foster a supportive and encouraging environment for them to grow into their potential, well I know 3 kids...

This place is top notch for family fun and championing kids of all ages. So awesome to see kids everywhere, supported by caring adults who encourage them to work hard and achieve their goals. The simple lessons kids learn here under the patience of AMAZING adults are lifelong. This past weekend, the track announcer elevated girls who were expert level. He championed them and encouraged more girls to come out to this sport. The announcer gave a very moving speak about how just a few years ago, there weren't really any girls on the track. While I am a mom of 5 moms, I had goosebumps listening to him speak. So thankful that these opportunities exist in our community for boys and girls alike. This place is so special and really for everyone. Low cost, free use of bikes, amazing kids and adults, laughter and smiles all around. Certainly one of my favorite places to be in Kitsap. Very fun track I've only brought my son here a handful of times and he likes riding here. The gate is really loud but I'm sure the sound just carries inside. We've only been here after October and it's been a bit chilly but that's what you get racing in Fall. Todd leaks a little here and there but that's life with a old building. Seating is tight but he you can still race indoors all year. The concession/signups/show room is great we my son forgot his gloves one day and we jus went in bought new pair really glad they sell these kinda things there. If you've been thinking about going here don't hesitate it's worth it. It's a technical track my son had to pull couple up and under to get by kids here and the rhythm section really helped him skills allot. Def ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ get out here and give it a try my son...
