i should have known to turn around and walk out when the shampooist asked me to put my head back into a sink full of hair from the prior customer! instead, i asked her to clean it, which she did by a quick rinse. after receiving a wonderful shampoo (thank you shampoo lady), i started to receive a blow dry from who i later learned is the OWNER.....
i explained to him that i have japanese straightened hair because i like pin straight hair. so i asked him to put some moroocan oil on then blowdry. he started to blowdry and i should have walked out at that point because he started to blow dry my hair to a MESSY FRIZZ.
let me explain: he held the blowdryer at a 45 degree angle at my head...just waiving it back and forth like a little girl blow drying her dolls head. needless to say, my hair was going everywhere and frizz was getting out of hand. i commented, "you have an interesting blow drying technique" to which he replied, "i am creating lift and volume". OMG OMG OMG !! SERIOUSLY?? here are my thoughts on this if you readers haven't already figured out the problem with this:
i have JAPANESE straightened hair - you CAN"T get volume or lift when someone has chemically STRAIGHT hair
holding a blowdryer at a 45 degree angle is not creating ANYTHING other than FRIZZ. you can't just whip hair around and point a blow dryer on it in HOPES of creating volume. in fact, to create volume you do the OPPOSITE....you CONTROL the hair shaft and lift from the ROOTS. blowdrying the ROOTS is how to obtain volume while managing and controling the friz.
again, i pay $2000 / year to chemically STRAIGHTEN my hair. why would ANYONE think that i want volume and lift? seriously?
moving on....
so i sat there squirming a little because he was creating a rats nets. hair was flying everywhere but i continued to let him do his thing.....
BUT....after about 5 minutes of watching my hair tangle and friz, and after a few instances of him burning my scalp and watching how he fumbled with the brush and blowdryer (and noticing that as he started to use a brush he didn't section the hair (he just threw it over the other side of my head causing yet even more frizz), i decided to call it quits.
he got upset at my decision to leave, commenting that he has "25 years experience in the industry" so he knows what he is doing.
readers, i am not here trying to bash the owner, rather, i am here to heed warning that 25 years of experience doing anything does NOT automatically make you an expert.
as for me, i won't be going back. as you for you, good...
Read more$320 for bleach and color, (and i bought the color separately before coming) is expensive in my book.
First let me say the place looks nice. Not HIGH HIGH END nice but nice. clean, modern and pleasant. The staff seemed nice and polite. Keep in mind I got this for my GF, so I did not go through the experience but being the one who paid for it I feel i can offer some insight.
The color was not exactly what we wanted but it was nice. I think we were trying to get something hard to match anyways but still, it was not like the photos we provided. We brought most of the color ourselves in a hopes to make the process simple but maybe that made it harder to hit the colors we wanted.
For me it was the price. When i first called they quoted me around $200, and i thought that was high so we looked around else where but after a bad experience I was willing to pay more for better service.
I scheduled an appointment and before the appointment I thought to ask how much it would be again. they told me between $200 and $300. At this point i should have just canceled. that is way more then i wanted to pay but the hassle of finding a good place... well I said oh well lets hope its in the middle.
Once it was over and the lady said $320 I was disappointing. This is by far the highest amount i have ever heard mentioned by any hair dresser in the area. There was nothing about the service that said "Best you will ever have". further more, it was way higher then what they told me which I find very misleading. My GF hair is long and black, but even though she is very short her hair does not extend below the lower spine (it stops right at the top of the but). Long, yes, but super long.
Overall my GF liked the experience and had no complaints but also did not seem "blown away" by...
Read moreSo disappointed after the treatment I received here. I got a balayage treatment done from this place a week and a half back. My hair stylist was recommended on an fb group so I decided to try. I have got balayage done before from other places and have been very happy. But my hair stylist Jess seemed to be in a grumpy mood from the beginning. She tugged in my hair several times and caused me do much discomfort despite me reminding her that it was uncomfortable. Then she went on to say I have dark hair and my hair color didnât stay because I had black hair. Seriously?? After 2 hours of sitting there? I have had my hair done before and got beautiful highlights because the hair stylist took that into account. Also very random way of coloring. Just applied wherever she felt like. I now have one side of the head with color and the other with dark hair. She also said my greys will be taken care of during the coloring but nothing. I paid the full amount as well as a decent tip because I had no idea how it looked completely from the back. Recently some of my friends saw my hair from the back and asked me â where did you get your hair colored? Thatâs a horrible job they have doneâ. Thatâs when I realized what it looked like from the back. I tried calling the salon to see if they could do something but nobody decided to give me a call back. Iâm so upset because now I need to figure out how to make my hair look uniform by probably coloring my hair black again. Pics added: you can see that I have a brown strip on the left side and nothing on the right and 2 strips on the underside of my head when I tied my hair up in a bun. I shouldnât be even giving 3 stars...
