It has been a long time since I have left any reviews for restaurants. But I think the most important part about this restaurant has not been mentioned in any reviews. First, this restaurant does not serve regular hamburgers. No where on their website or any reviews mentioned this. “Smashed” burgers are what they call them, which is loose somewhat dried ground beef placed in a bun. Paraphrased by my 16 year old as taking the best part of a hamburger and making it bad. So needless to say the burger completely falls apart, not juicy and is completely cooked through with well done as the default. I guess I should have gotten up and left but decided to try it anyway. Bad decision. Second, about the atmosphere; definitely more “Friendly’s”with lots of young kids than craft brewery. So don’t be surprised. This evening there was an event upstairs with live band and downstairs there was loud pub music. So can you say clash of music. It was a barrage of loud sounds not music. Finally the clincher. After a disappointing meal, there is nothing worst than being handed a bill telling you that you will have to pay extra 3% if you use a credit card. It is perfectly acceptable for restaurants to make the decision to take cash only or no credit card. But to be told this after the fact is bad business practice. I was not given the choice to make that decision. When I asked the server she said that they have been doing it for a year. Doing something wrongly for a year does not make it right. If it is a management policy then stick a sign on the entrance especially since this restaurant has a door that you have to open to get in. This should be disclosed up front not after the fact. Also by telling customers on the bill that “you will be charged a 3% processing fees for credit card to offset the fees that we pay” is possibly violating your merchant agreement with Visa and Mastercard. Merchants are not allowed to pass on processing fees to the customers as part of the merchant contract. I only carry Apple Pay or credit cards. With the amount of security breaches even at large corporations, I would not trust the security of a local restaurant to safeguard my debit card number from fraud. So needless to say had there been a sign outside informing me of such a policy, it would have saved me from this restaurant. Perhaps that is what they are trying to avoid. ...
Read moreWe hosted a bridal shower here this past weekend. We were provided a private room upstairs, conveniently next to the bar. We ordered food off the menu and had it plattered and cut up to make everything shareable. This was the first shower I have ever hosted and thanks to La Cabra, things went so well. The atmosphere at La Cabra is so welcoming and relaxing. The second floor features darts, a foosball table, and a ring game. There are huge couches to lounge on and plenty of seating and space. We did not have the entire second floor reserved but never felt like we were intruding on other patron's spaces or them ours.
The beer was fantastic. I'm a huge fan of the Hipster Catnip. The food was delicious (HIGHLY recommend the guac and three been empanadas). And the service? Absolutely perfect. Huge shout out to Chuck and Scott for helping us setup tables, giving us pointers on what food to order, and for being so readily available. You guys made something that was stressful SO easy! Also, I have to thank Jacey, who answered all my questions about hosting an event there. I cannot thank you enough for your help and your patience!
Can't wait...
Read moreHave been going to LaCabra since it opened. The past 3 times I went I was sorely disappointed. There are no longer duck fries or Empanadas. Both were great. Most of the menu resembles the smoke house offerings (aka Bodega) which is very good but nothing new. The "new" small plate scallop plate was good but 3 scallops only for $18 + arugula. This evening my husband and I ordered the brisket fries to share $18. Not only was there a small amount of fries the brisket was cubed and not shredded. We sent it back and ordered the Parmesan truffle fries $13. The basket of fries we were served was a worthy amount. What you would have expected if you ordered brisket fries. Our friends order the cauliflower tacos. 2 breaded cauliflower tacos with nothing but a drizzle. A handful of greens as a side. $16. Not sure what happened but we don't recognize any of the staff. We had to ask for utensils. These experiences are far from what we were used to. So sad. Oh and no goat on the menu...
