I have been paying for a family membership here for years. Mostly we take our kids swimming and although it’s seldom there always seem to be an issue with staffing.

We were turned away yet again today being told that my boys couldn’t swim because there was no life guard on duty. Mind you there were people swimming but because there was no life guard, “children can’t swim”.

I went in to make a complain and spoke with BETH. This so called manager has zero business working in public relations. There was no, “I apologize for the inconvenience” it was immediately, “Well you can contact Leah”. I asked what Leah’s number is thinking I could get a line to her voicemail and she responds, “I’m not giving you her direct number”. I don’t know how dense a person could be. She was casually wiping down counters while another staffer sat behind the desk and wanted to cop an attitude because I asked why they have such bad staffing issues.

She then proceeded to tell me, “it’s been posted on our website for over a week”. I’m sorry but do you expect your members to check your website before coming in because of incompetence? It’s been posted for a week and she’s wiping counters instead of stepping up as a manager and covering the role until the position is filled?

My fiancé and I are completely capable of watching over our own children. If you are going to turn away paid members of your complex then you need to shut that portion of the facility down to everyone!

Additionally, the only bulletin posted was the picture I included below. It states that “starting immediately the pool will be reserved for Adult Swim only Monday-Friday from 12-4pm.

I give this place 1 star because of the extreme life safety issues with life guards. I went 3 days in a row. 1st day the lifeguard spent a lot of time texting. Left the pool area for an extended period of time WITHOUT anyone watching the pool. At one point another staff came on deck and started talking to him. No one scanned the pool and at one point they both had their backs to both pools. 2nd day guard a little better. Spent time talking on her watch as well as what I'm guessing doing more than just checking the time. She left the deck several times with no one watching the pools. Day 3 the life guard was a little better, but not much. He left the deck several times but not for very long. The Workman Center is a very beautiful facility, the staff are friendly. Parking on 2 sides of the building. 2 pools. Lazy river side was a children's area with a small child size slide, water features, as well as a smaller pool attached . The water is a very comfortable 91 aprox. degrees. Perfect for older people with joint issues or people who just like their water warmer. The aqua aerobics was up beat, nice selection of music. Instructor did a great job leading the participants. Other pool is kept colder for lap swimmers. The rest of the facility was modern and well taken care of. We absolutely love this place. It has a jogging mile, a gym, 2courts for basketball / tennis/volleyball , and it also has a regular swimming pool for exercise and than a kickback spot with a lazy river that starts with an inch of water for toddler play that gets deeper and flows into a mother pool area than into a lazy river that splits into two sections. It usually is kept warm in the lazy river area which some ppl might like but I myself was over heated and that's the only thing I can say that I could complain about. Their is even a new park across the street that was just built and probably one of the coolest I've seen in my area here at Effingham.
