I'm going to start off by stating that I can't claim how "authentic" The Port of Peri Peri might be. This isn't because I have 'no clue' what Portuguese food is like, but because it has been 35-40 years since I've had any home cooked Portuguese food. Was it good, and will I return? Read on..........
I'll start with the service, primarily because several others have commented on the service being 'good'. The truth is, at least with my experience, it's a bit of a "mixed bag". The gal at the counter was pleasant, and smiled a few times (to myself, and others when they ordered)...but, the lack of anything resembling 'personality' made the experience somewhat "strange", almost disconcerting. I've dealt with customer service people before who lacked personality, and I don't really have anything negative to say regarding those experiences...but, this one was 'unusual', to say the least. If I could put it into better words, I would.
As for the food, itself, there was nothing spectacular about it...but, it was definitely good. The Peri Peri sauce, I feel, is what 'made' the chicken...it certainly was flavorful. At the same time, chicken should be able to "stand" on its own, without any sauce, and I'm not certain this chicken could do that. The coleslaw, while somewhat 'plain', was still quite good, and one of the more flavorful coleslaws that I've had in recent years. As for the rice, nothing spectacular, but still flavorful.
Finally, in regards to price, yes (as some others have pointed out), it is a bit on the pricey side...but, no more pricey than the majority of the other offerings on California St. This is, after all, Palo alto, where things do tend to cost "a bit more". Although I spent a little more than I intended on spending, I certainly wouldn't consider the price 'unreasonable'.
So, would I return? If I happened to be in the area...and, if I didn't feel like Indian Pakistani (Zareen's is directly across the street)...then, I'd say there is more than a reasonable possibility that I...

Read moreLast Saturday I was walking through California Ave to see what "looks good" to have lunch and this place just spoke to me (variety of vegetarian options).
The food is just perfect, simple, warm, delicious, good portions, it arrives at you at the right temperature (you won't burn your tongue with the first bite you take and you won't get a messy plate).
I had the paneer wrap (grilled paneer wrapped up with lettuce, tomato, and perimayo) with extra hot salsa. It wasn't too hot for me but very tasty, hot enough, and again, very tasty. My friend had the chicken burger (ciabatta bun with peri chicken, lettuce, tomato, PeriMayo) with medium salsa. Looks and kind of taste like ranch but more garlicky. We also share a side of Steamed Vegetables and Peri Peri Fries.
The staff is very friendly and takes all the COVID19 precautions. Plus they have REAL, absorbent, and large napkins! Finally, a place that thinks about this.
If you don't want to complicate your lunch/dinner and just want to enjoy good quality and simple food, this...
