Essence Express Elizabeth — Hotel in Elizabeth

I felt compelled to write a review and warn other travellers to stay away from here. On a layover in Newark I took the cheapest option available to book online because of its proximity to the airport. I had no idea what I was in for. The room itself was a cesspool. But from the moment the sun began to set I began fearing for my life. Police sirens were blazing, outside my window were hordes of gang-members riding BMX bikes. I hadn't had dinner and the only food option was a twix from a vending machine. The 20 foot walk to the vending machine from the relative safety of the room felt like walking through a warzone. I sprinted there and back. It felt like a scene from the Walking Dead with me barely shutting the door behind me before walkers could beat down my door for some crack money.||After a sleepless night I carefully walked across the parking lot to the lobby, immediately regretting that I hadn't fashioned some kind of primitive weapon for the walk. I should have called for a police escort except it didn't cross my mind. Behind the bullet proof glass the manager took some pity on me when I asked him how to get back to Newark. He said that I clearly don't belong there and actually offered me a ride. It was heartwarming to see just this small glimmer of humanity in such a toxic place. As I was about to leave at 6 a.m. a young boy came with into the lobby with an empty bucket asking for more ice and started yelling at the manager because it was supposed to be free and unlimited. I give this location five stars it's renovated from a fire I never visited the pass location but this new location is perfect close to shopping close to the airport close to major cities and it's affordable the room I had was clean but it's nice and spacious the television is beautiful I had a great relaxing weekend and the front desk staff and the other staff members were very nice and very helpful and attentive I hope that this place could continue to be a beautiful place I know that there's always going to be people to try to mess that up that I hope that they can continue to have really nice business because I like that location and it's is design like a motel but you know it's a really relaxing place if you need to relax it gives you that ambience to relax.

I want to highlight that there were no bugs there were no rodents there wasn't any foul smells in my room or around my room and it just really nice upgraded amenities the bathroom is spacious the room is spacious nice king size bed humongous TV smart TV I was able to watch the super bowl yay I had a great experience shout out to Expedia TAAP.

From my visit I do recommend this location and just remember that you do need to have a deposit LOL you have to have a deposit and yeah I just think I think it was a really nice location shout out to the staff at...

We had a family emergency and in checking the hotels in Newark/Elizabeth (graduations, etc going on) it seem this was the only room available in this area. Well, let me tell you, when we opened the door to the room, the stench made us sick to our stomachs! the rug (which was burgundy (?) had white spots all over it. I didn't go any further then the door. The ppl we saw hanging around explained, at least to me, what this place was used forundesirables and their customers! After talking to a family member who lives in Elizabeth, she confirmed my suspicious of what this place was used for. She recommended hotel about 20 minutes up the road in Linden. We got a 2 room suite, jacuzzi, a tv on the wall in the bedroom and a tv on the wall in the living as well as a full kitchen. the room was clean and clean smelling. the hotel area was quiet and all of this for $2.00 ($105) more than I paid at this dump. Even though we had to put down a $5 deposit for the remote, yes the remote, when we checked out and turned in the remote, the $5 was returned to me :)||||My advice to all- take heed to these reviews, not only this one but the other ones as well and run, do not stop at this dump.
