I've been seeing Kayla Ferguson, DPT at this Encinitas location for over 8 months now, treating two separate areas of my body (pretty severe, long-standing injuries). This review is going to sound a bit over the top, but honestly Kayla and the team here at PRN are outstanding. From my easy first encounter on the phone scheduling an evaluation, to treatments with Kayla (every single one has been exceptional), to the Techs helping me with exercising correctly, my entire experience has been great -- for 8 months now. This location of PRN has a team who is caring, expects high caliber service from themselves, is supportive, warm and encouraging with clients, and also with each other. I believe the culture of excellence they have created has inspired all of them to be better therapists and therefore the treatments I've received have been excellent and effective. I have been able to schedule with just one therapist (Kayla Ferguson) almost exclusively for my entire treatment. That was my preference due to the sensitivity and complexity of my injuries. Kayla is an insightful problem-solver who never gives up on me no matter the "low" days. Every visit she listens thoroughly and remembers everything from last visits. She offers practical solutions to allow me to get on with my life while giving me simple exercises to improve my body and help eliminate pain. I have so appreciated that Kayla was sensitive to my body's particular reactions to treatments and exercises. I have never felt pushed beyond what I could handle. Instead I've felt respected and listened to and worked with to improve my body. This has also helped me to learn how to better work with my body and care for myself (so valuable for me). Now, 8 months later, I am significantly improved and I am hopeful for more improvements in the coming months. I completely credit Kayla's expertise, and well-trained mind for my improvements!
Just a word about the Techs. Every single Tech that has guided me through my exercises after my treatment with Kayla has been awesome. Johnathan, Debbie, Javier and Cole make a strong team. They all are patient and knowledgeable. They gently remind me of posture and correct execution of my exercises. They all check in regularly to make sure the exercises are not causing pain and keep me encouraged and positive. I definitely feel cared about and feel like I am an individual, not just "a body" coming in for therapy.
A few general observations. The driveway getting up to the clinic and down again is a bit hair-raising! The clinic itself is a bit on the older side (and gets a LOT of use), but the staff is scrupulous about cleaning protocols. I've been watching them for 8 months and have NEVER seen them miss cleaning a single table or changing pillow covers, etc. Plus there is an air filter running in the exercise room too. I do strongly dislike the fluorescent lighting in the clinic. I find it a bit creepy and depressing. It would be wonderful to have natural light coming in -- but that is a minor annoyance -- just me. The team is 100% respectful of your time. I've never been kept waiting for an appointment in my entire 8 months of treatments.
So bottom line? If you need physical therapy come here!! You'll be feeling better soon and grateful to have found this wonderful...

For a couple years my wrist was in pain and limited in weight bearing. I had dealt with one major wrist surgery before but this was different. Even with my knowledge of biomechanics, I couldn't discern what was going on. All Xrays and MRIs came back negative. Cortisone did nothing. Multiple casts did nothing. Laura was able to generate some improvement but it didn't last. It had nothing to do with her treatment.
During the course of our sessions, she meticulously watched and tested my wrist. She noted every detail and thought out loud so I could follow her train of thought. My wrist was an unenviable task, the injury was a phantom. Symptoms abounded but no clear cause. However; after a few sessions Laura believed I had a tear in my TFCC that made it into a sort of "flap". It was thought to be an ECU issuse but she wasn't convinced. By hand, she drafted my case in full detail for me to give to the presiding physician.
Despite her deduction, the physicians recommended other treatment. It was a dead end and the only option that remained was surgery. When they opened the wrist up, they found a torn and detached TFCC -- but it was torn on the horizon line. Meaning, the MRI couldn't see it.
Laura Greene outdid the most advanced medical technology with nothing but her mind and feeling my wrist with her hand. She diagnosed what several physicians could not and then took on an unwinnable task with a passion that made you think it was her first day on the job.
Attentive, intelligent, purposed, and caring. Laura did all that could be done as if was ensuring recovery. She knew it wouldn't, but it didn't stop her from trying. That's the kind of therapist I want. My wrist could only be made well by surgery - and it was. But I couldn't let Laura's involvement go unacknowledged. She's a master...
Read moreStarts great then goes downhill. The initial sessions are great and informative.
After a couple of sessions you get most of the times derived to the interns(?), and doing the same exercise, daily. (1) Not a huge deal, but to do the same things daily, I can do them on my own. But OK.
(2) Then, the one-hour sessions start getting trimmed, even to 20 minutes. They still get full pay for the session which, again, I would be able to do on my own. So basically at this point I am just going there 20 minutes so they can bill my insurer.
I am also charge co-pay daily, something that my health insurance concierge insists is not correct as I should only have paid for the initial consultation, which is like a doctor visit. After that is just the service, 100% covered. I prefer a little less money but no bad remark on my credit report so I keep paying (not 100% sure on who is right here).
Due to the fact that in the end it becomes a waste of time, as I go there for 20-30 minutes to do the same every day, as I can do on my own, I don't do the 12 sessions. Of course, even though I didn't take the last one or two sessions, they still charge my insurance, and send me a balance for my copay. I paid it, and now they keep sending the same balance claiming it was not paid. Funny thing is that the statement they send me clearly show that I did pay the balance they claim. Can't solve it as calling management office you get through the receptionist but the billing team sends you to voicemail directly (been trying for hours,...
