Absolutely appalling experience in this store on this Sunday morning.
I'd been on a long road trip, & stopped in to pick up a few things. I'm a frequent/excellent customer, who often stops in the first thing in the morning, typically during work week.
It was around 6:45 a.m on Apr. 23. Went to one set of doors to come in, & they didn't open. Not unusual, as large stores w/two sets of front doors often have second set closed earlier in morn. Went to the other set, door was open, & I walked in.
I went in & there was a black woman w/very short cropped hair behind their long front desk (where we retrieve the rebate forms, etc.). She was looking at me oddly, as I smiled & warmly said good morning, & kept staring at me as I walked past to stop first at restroom. I came out of restroom, looked down the aisle & noted this same woman (in blue shirt/some type of mgr?) talking w/a man & staring at me again.
Thought it was odd but proceeded to do my shopping. Went to checkout, & this same woman came to check me out & launched into me. "Just have to tell you we don't open until 8:00 a.m. on Sundays; the hours are ON THE DOOR". Then she proceeded to tell me she spoke w/one of their employees, who saw me first try & come in the locked set of doors, & that "the hours are ON THE DOOR". Implying WHAT exactly? That I tried to sneak in or something?! What the?! Then, I said something about I'd heard they were open till 10:00 now, & three guesses what her reply was..."YEAH. The hours are ON THE DOOR."
First of all? The employee who was outside & saw me try & fail to come in the first set of doors? He could have EASILY said..."We're not open yet". Why didn't he?
Second of all? Why are their doors unlocked when they are not open yet?
Lastly...& MOST IMPORTANTLY of all? Why didn't this woman simply tell me they were not open yet, as I walked in & said "Good morning" & strolled past her front desk?? She had AMPLE opportunity to.
What it felt like to me? She decided to wait to humiliate me unnecessarily until I had shopped & spent my $$ there! It felt very purposeful, & it also...to be frank...felt like she saw her chance to belittle the 'entitled' white woman.
THIS? I plan to take all the way up the chain.
Needless to say? Menards will no longer be getting my family's business, and I strongly suggest you seriously consider whether to...
Read moreWill never shop at menards. Ordered 1000s of dollars in hardscaping materials of which needed to be ordered because they didn’t have the quantity we needed. Was told we would have a phone call to set up delivery with a couple of weeks. 2 weeks pass and I call only to be told the order isn’t in the system. Call back because their phone system has static and high pitch squealing that makes them inaudible and get told the order isnt completely in stock yet with no expected date of arrival. I call back again to be told the order is in but no one put contact info on the “pick ticket” ( the separate papers they print to pull an order together) despite all contact information being on the main invoice.
Ask to set up the delivery and they have very limited availability over the month and no effort is made to expedite our delivery despite it being outside the initially stated dates. if we had known the order was in we could have scheduled out a couple weeks at our convenience. Had to pick a early Wednesday am delivery time - i specifically asked the GM to ensure the order was unwrapped to make sure no stones were broken/chipped, bags busted etc. He assured me it would all be impeccable. Delivery shows up, low and behold they were in great shape but incorrect size. The driver says oh they will have to reschedule another day- of which I said “I need you to call the GM now to get these done today this has been issue after issue from the beginning” met with a “you won’t order me around and now I’m not coming back at all and I’m the only delivery for 4 stores”. He apparently doesn’t work for menards he’s a contractor. Oh I’m sorry -you’re in a menards shirt, menards truck - I assumed you were a menards representing employee. Called the GM back with no solution - he has to call me back. No corporate or regional person to speak to in real time to get issues resolved.
The GM hasn’t apologized for the issues, offered a discount or offered a solution. Is customer service and quality a thing of the past? I feel as if this company is completely lacking and does not care or cater to the customer. We pay for a product and delivery- is it too much to ask that you deliver the correct product at a time that works for...
Read moreNeeded to rent the pick up truck. Called in the morning to ask about it and was told that it is available but that they cannot reserve it for me for a specific time. He did say, however, that if I called when I was on my way, that he is able to hold it for me for up to 20 minutes. I said that would be great and I would call back. I called back at 11:23am and said I needed to rent the truck. He asked me when I would be there and I said no more than 20 minutes because I was already on my way. He took my last name and said he could hold it for 25 minutes. I arrived about 15 minutes later. There was an older man that had just walked up to the counter and an employee was taking care of him. Another employee asked what I needed. I told her I was here to pick up the truck. She walked over to the other employee and told her and then came back to me and said she was sorry but that gentleman was already renting the truck. Another male employee came over and also said he is sorry but they don’t hold the trucks for people. I told him as well what I was told on the phone. The female employee helping the older gentleman comes back over to me and picks up the phone obviously calling whoever told me he would hold the truck. While she’s on the phone she asked me my last name and it was obvious that she was also given my name by the person she was talking to on the phone, confirming that he did tell me he would hold it for me. She hangs up the phone and snaps, “this is exactly why we don’t hold the trucks!” Then goes back over to the other customer. The other female employee asks me what I want to do, if I want to leave my name for when the truck is back. I said no, I want the truck. The older gentleman asks me how long I would be with the truck and was considering agreeing to let me use it. The female employee that called and confirmed that I was told it was being held for 25 minutes then just walks with the older man out of the store leaving me standing there wondering what the heck just happened. I left and drove another 20 minutes to Home Depot...but got my truck with...
