If you want to see the aurora, Aaron is the right guy to take you! He is extremely knowledgeable about both the science behind them, and also the best places to go see them away from crowds of people and light pollution. On our tour (September 24, 2022) we went about 60 miles outside of Fairbanks. Lucky for us, the skys were clear and the aurora was active. It was a beautiful sight, and we got lots of great pictures. We were impressed with Aaron's email communication, and he arrived to pick us up at our hotel at the exact time he told us he would. In our case it was 9:30pm. He also did not "short" us with regard to the length of our outing, as it was about 4:30am before we got back to our hotel. For us, this was a good thing, as this is probably a once in a lifetime trip for my wife and I. The long night allowed us to see several spectacular bursts, and get more photos. He could have easily ended the tour much earlier, since the aurora was visible at the first of two viewing stops we made that night. So, if you are looking for a quick glance at the aurora, look elsewhere. But, if you want the opportunity to see and learn about the aurora in an unhurried and thorough fashion, this is the tour to take! We believe Aaron's goal is to provide his clients the best opportunity possible to see the aurora on any given night. In fact, our tour was originally set for September 23rd, but clouds and rain were in the forecast. He emailed us that day and offered us the option to reschedule for the 24th, as the weather forecast was better. So we rescheduled, and all worked out fantastic! We snickered a bit the next morning at the hotel breakfast, because we overheard several others talking about looking but not seeing the aurora that prior night. We sure did! Lastly, Aaron is an expert photographer and knows about cameras. If you have a high-end camera, he can help you with settings and such. (With that said, the three pictures posted here were taken on our tour with Canon Elph point and shoot camera set on manual, iso 800, and a 13 second shutter, and a cheap Amazon tripod.) There are probably cheaper tours you can take, but our advice is to go with Aaron at Fairbanks Aurora Tours if you are serious about viewing the aurora.

If I could give 10 stars, I would! The tour guide, Aaron is very knowledgeable and knows the best areas to take you to chase Aurora, usually at least an hour out of Fairbanks. If skies are cloudy, he will find the breaks in the clouds. If there is even the tiniest chance of finding Aurora, he will! He explains the science behind aurora very well; most interesting!! We went twice with him, and had wonderful experiences, especially the second time, where the aurora were over the whole sky (due to a solar storm) You can rent Nikon cameras from him and he sets them all up for you; he also takes photos of your group under the lights, if you chose that option. If you do only one Aurora tour in Fairbanks, this should be it!

Aaron seems has a lot of knowledge about Fairbanks and Alaska. He offers personal tour in a group setting. We went for 2 nights. The first night we barely saw it. We were planning to go somewhere far but stopped at a closer place and barely saw the Northern light although we waited at the place for more than a hour. The second day, we were able to see the aurora but we were not able to take the portrait when the aurora was vivid. Although we asked him at first if we can take the portrait now and stood close to him to get call for taking the portrait, he passed us to take other people first and we were the last pair to take the portrait. However, at that time, the aurora is so dim than before. We were quite upset with it and he said he just went down from his list but we were with him for two nights and we booked this tour half years ago. This is very disappointing to us. When we received our image, we are even more upset. Although he told us he will edit it, our portrait looks like a bunch of clouds in the sky with a green background than aurora. If you ever join this tours and want him to take a portrait that charged for 50 dollars, you should communicate with him first about when to take the...

Visited Fairbanks in mid Sept of 2022 and had a tour booked with Aaron. Communications after booking and to arrange picking us up at our hotel were perfect. We were picked up on time in a full size van that had plenty of space for everybody and all the gear. Aaron drove the van in a very safe and professional manner, with zero reason for even the most fussy person to raise an eyebrow worrying about crashing in the wilderness in the fog after dark. We drove for about an hour while being entertained and informed on numerous topics as a group conversation.

When we arrived at the site Aaron helped the photographers in the group get setup. The aurora started out modestly but during the course of the evening it became positively magnificient! Breathtakingly amazing. Aaron is super knowledgable on the science behind them and shared the info freely with those of us who shared the interest.

When the show was done for the night we journeyed back to the hotel. We purchased the optional portrait and were simply blown away in the quality and beauty of what we received.

I freely give 5 stars and would give more if I could. I would also book with Aaron again, its that good. Go, book it now. Truly a bucket list...
