I would definitely never recommend this store for custom jewelry. I had a terrible experience with the owner John who is emotionally fueled, which is ridiculous for a businessperson. I will say the ladies who worked for him were fine and cordial. If you choose to do business with them, make sure you have EVERYTHING written out word for word of your expectations because one area that was lacking was documentation. The issues started when we had a miscommunication of expectations for the pricing of my jewelry [for 2 rings]. The engagement ring came out fine, and never did I say that the craftsmanship was poor, or that it was lacking. Simply put, it did not meet what I wanted; but that did not mean it was bad or that I put his work down. I left the store unhappy with the outcome of the ring, and not receiving both bands, as I had expected. I received no calls within the following week to ask why I was unsatisfied, nor to even follow up on why I did not purchase the band. When I asked to negotiate the pricing for the 2nd piece of my jewelry (band) based on the price he charged me for my engagement ring, we did not come to an agreement. John took my reasons for why I expected a lower price to be “degrading” his work and he said that I could just return the ring for a refund of my money. This was what I intended to do but after speaking with other jewelers they said that it was his job to please the customer, and to make the jewelry that was expected. I had intentions to purchase the wedding band, after my ring was fixed to my liking, and they were minor changes. When I called to express my desires John completely cut me off telling me he had lost sleep over this interaction and that he was highly upset and wanted to be done with me. He said he wanted to stick to the original plan of me returning the ring for my refund. YOU ARE A BUSINESSPERSON AND A SELLER. I AM THE CUSTOMER. YOUR JOB IS TO MAKE ME HAPPY. John consistently told me in almost every conversation we had (about 5) that he was the best in the area, I couldn’t get a better price, his work was outstanding and his job was to please his customers. For someone that talks himself up so much, he surely did not follow through. The credit I give him is his work was fine, but his attitude is ridiculous and I cannot imagine ever having to do business with someone like him again. ...

Full review: My husband and I had 4 custom jewelry pieces made for our wedding - 2 wedding bands, an engagement ring, and a necklace. We were extremely pleased with all 4.

We had shopped around several larger jewelry stores before and immediately felt that this local business was far more personable, trustworthy, and experienced.

We wanted to take the diamond from a ring my husband inherited and put it into a new setting for my engagement ring. While other jewelers were downright rude to us when they found out we didn’t intend to purchase a large diamond from them, Personal Touch Jewelers was happy to accommodate us. As such, we chose to order 3 more custom pieces from them (which they gave us a discount on, even though we didn’t ask or expect it).

John and Maria were very patient, knowledgeable, and respectful of our budget throughout the whole process. John looked through our inspiration photos and gave good advice on how to achieve the look we wanted while still maintaining the longevity and integrity of the rings. He made a wax mock-up of my wedding band, and I got to give some final notes before the real thing was made.

2.5 years later, all of the pieces they made for us are still in great shape.

A bonus worth mentioning is the free and limitless ring cleaning! They also appraised a diamond for us and gave us a discount on that as well.

This store is a hidden gem in the middle of Fairfax. John and Maria are both extremely personable and worked with me on designing 3 unique gifts replete with high end quality diamond and quality casting of a pendant that I had initially sketched out for them. My concept went from sketch to CAD design to a casting that was flawlessly executed. This unique piece has sentimental value to my wife as I presented to her on a milestone birthday. If you want any kind of jewelry with a great experience and personal engagement to tailor or engrave to your needs, this is the place!!! I have used Personal touch for several years now when I want to get something more unique and personalized that I just wouldn't trust to the box jewelers out there. I also have been very particular in the gemstones and their GIA Certifications which Maria has been able to acquire quickly and let me review the stones to ensure quality expectations before proceeding into incorporating into their ultimate pieces. From rings, to pendants to key chains, Personal Touch Jewelers is a Shining Star!!! You will get better gems with this store than those chains...and the value for money is excellent.
